Chantilly Academy attendance procedures and policies

Attendance Reporting

Absences, late arrivals, or early releases for Academy classes must be reported by calling and leaving a message on our Chantilly Academy 24/7 attendance phone line at 703-222-7496 .

When reporting absences, late arrivals, or early releases, you must include:

  1. Student ID #
  2. Student's full name (spelled out)
  3. Date(s) of absence(s)
  4. Reason for the absence(s)

Note:Chantilly Academy attendance is completely separate from your base school's attendance; base schools do not report attendance to the Academy.  When your student is absent from their Academy class, the Academy office must be notified directly.

A parent or guardian must report all absences; we will not accept reports directly from students, even if the student is over 18 years of age.  The only exception for students 18 or over is if they are self-enrolled.

Late Arrivals

Students from other base schools arriving late to the Academy must check in with the Academy office upon arrival and before going to class.

Chantilly High School students must check in with their sub-school AND the Academy Office before going to class.  A note for the tardy should be provided if available.

Early Dismissals

If a student needs to leave early from a Chantilly Academy class, please have them bring a signed and dated note to the Academy office, stating the reason and time for dismissal, so students can sign out and receive a check-out pass.

If a student becomes sick and leaves their base school during the school day and, as a result, misses their Academy class, the Academy must be notified accordingly. The attendance office and/or clinic does not always notify the Academy office, therefore, a parent/guardian should call us directly to let us know.

Absences Due to Transportation

Absences due to a missed shuttle is considered an unexcused absence. When this happens, the student should report immediately to their base school attendance office, sub-school office, or counselor.  A base school staff member must then call or email the Academy office to report the absence to verify the student is safe and accounted for.

For students driving to the Academy, tardies related to car transportation are unexcused – including car trouble, traffic, and other issues.

Inclement Weather Policies

Note: For a 2-hour early release, please review your base school's modified schedule as this may impact attendance.

Base School Schedule Modifications

The Chantilly Academy schedule never changes. Most FCPS high schools feed into our programs and will schedule events/activities/testing that best fit their needs.  It is not the responsibility of a base school to notify us when a modification is made to their schedule.  Students will have to make a choice to attend their Academy class or follow the modified base school schedule.  Either way, the class(es) that your student is not attending, your student must be called out or be marked as unverified without notification.
