Summer Programs and Transition Activities Guide 2026
Shifting Gears
Kilmer is pleased to once again offer its Shifting Gears Orientation Program. This one-day session is designed for rising 7th grade students and new 8th grade students who are new to FCPS. The program helps students make a smooth transition to middle school.
Students should register for only one session, as all sessions provide the same content. Click here to sign-up or scan the QR code above.
Program features include:
- Tours and scavenger hunts to become familiar with the building
- Team-building activities
- Learning about changing classes, block scheduling, and what a middle school classroom is like
- Opportunities to meet and socialize with new friends
- Lunch
Three sessions will be offered this summer:
- Session 1:August 13, 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Kilmer MS
- Session 2:August 13, 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM at Kilmer MS*
- Session 3:August 14, 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Kilmer MS
- * Rising 8th grade students who are new to FCPS are asked to register for Session 2 so they can be grouped with other 8th grade students.
The cost of the program is $20. The registration fee covers instructional expenses, lunch, and a Kilmer t-shirt.

VIP Summer Camp
- VIP Summer Camp(for our Current or Rising 7th grade families) will be held at Glasgow this July. The application form and other additional information can be found here . Registration opens March 17th.
