English Language Arts

Outcome: 

Ensure students are making sufficient progress to be on grade level in English Language Arts.

Goal: 

By Spring 2024, 75% of our students in grades 1-3 will demonstrate expected screener within-year growth in reading (i-ready). 

Strategy: 

Improve daily, systematic, explicit instruction in phonological awareness, phonics, and morphology in the core language arts block.

Strategy:

Expand use of skills-based grouping to ensure students demonstrate mastery of foundational skills. 

Strategy:

Increase impact of tier 2 interventions for students demonstrating risk by using FCPS-recommended programs and practices with fidelity (e.g., Lexia, UFLI). 

Mathematics

Outcome: 

Ensure students are making sufficient progress to be on grade level in Mathematics.

Goal:

By the end of SY 23-24, 70%, or 56/80, of students who are English Learners will meet their growth target on iReady/EMAS.

Strategy:

Improve teachers’ implementation of Framework for Engaging & Student-Centered Mathematics Instruction.

Strategy:

Increase teachers' implementation strategies related to Shift 4: from show and tell to share and compare.

Strategy:

Increase teachers' implementation of explicit instruction and other components of effective mathematics intervention.

Science

Outcome: 

Ensure students are making sufficient progress with Science standards of learning.

Goal: 

By the end of 2023-2024 school year, 80% of 5th grade students at Lane Elementary will pass the science SOL. 

Strategy:

Through weekly STREAM and Computer Science classes for grades K-6 there will be an increase in frequency of student learning experiences that are inquiry-based and hands-on. Student progress and growth will be monitored through POG and PBL's within both settings. 

Strategy:

STREAM teacher and Computer Science teacher (SBTS) will increase opportunities to develop tier 3 vocabulary through inquiry-based learning, followed by explicit instruction. This will be measured through the quarterly Performance Matters Science assessments in 5th grade.
