Bike & Roll to School Day:

Love riding your bike? Celebrate Bike & Roll to School Day and join students, families, and teachers across the country in biking to school together! This national event promotes healthy habits, encourages walking and biking, and helps reduce car traffic.

While it’s a one-day event, Bike to School Day inspires long-term change by showing communities the benefits of safer, active school commutes. Mark your calendars: May 6, 2026! Registration is open at www.walkbiketoschool.org/registration/ , and the FCPS Safe Routes to School team offers incentives for participating schools. Ride together, make a difference, and show your community the power of active travel!

Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow:

In FCPS, we all belong . From the first day of school, to the last day of school, every child matters. If your student is having a hard time finishing the year strong and attending school, please contact a trusted adult at our school — a teacher, counselor, or administrator. Visit FCPS’ website for more attendance resources

Supporting Students through Spring Assessments:

Students will be participating in spring assessments based on their grade level and courses. This includes summative assessments like Standards of Learning (SOL) tests, which measure what a student knows, and progress assessments like Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) tests, which measure where they are in their learning.

FCPS encourages all families to support their students in taking these tests. Virginia requires schools to test at least 95% of students on SOLs, so when families choose not to participate in testing, it can impact a school’s accreditation, accountability ratings, and ability to measure student progress accurately.

Parents and caregivers can help their children perform their best on these tests by reminding them to get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and the cell phone policy still applies during testing season.

It is important that students attend school on scheduled testing dates. If you are aware of a conflict that may cause your student to miss a test, please notify your student’s school as soon as possible.

National School Breakfast Week:

From  March 2 to March 6, 2026, FCPS Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) is celebrating National School Breakfast Week (NSBW). NSBW is an annual celebration dedicated to recognizing the vital role that school breakfast plays in nourishing students nationwide. The theme this year is “The Quest for School Breakfast” to transform breakfast from a daily routine into a shared adventure.

By celebrating NSBW, we emphasize the benefits of a balanced breakfast in creating a strong foundation for the day ahead.

School Meals Lead to Student Success

  • Balanced nutrition fuels learning and focus.
  • Eating a whole breakfast improves students’ alertness, focus, and memory.
  • Every school breakfast includes choices of a whole-grain and/or protein-focused entrée and at least ½ cup of whole fruit or 100% fruit juice.

Building Healthy Trays

Student-Driven Menus

  • New menu items come from student feedback at the FNS 2025 Food Show .
  • Developed by our executive chef and dietitian team for flavor, health, and sustainability.

Why School Meals Matter

Students who eat school breakfast show improved attendance and academic performance.

We are excited to announce that our school is now using the new Raptor Visitor Management System (VMS). This upgrade is part of our school’s and FCPS’ ongoing commitment to enhancing school safety and streamlining the process for visitors at our school. The VMS ensures that no visitor is on the sex offender registry.

For most visitors, the user experience will be the same when you check-in at the front office.

But now there is also an app, which can make check-in’s even faster at school. Visitors who choose to download the RaptorSafe App and create a Raptor Passport can pre-verify their information before they get to school. The app will give you a QR code you can use when you check-in at school.

If you have questions or need assistance with the new system, please contact our front office. Thank you for your partnership in keeping our schools safe!

Preparing for Winter Weather

Click on the image for a video explaining how weather closing decisions are made at FCPS.

FCPS’ website is generally the first place to find out about emergency weather closings. Other communication channels will be used as quickly as possible, including email, text, social media, the new FCPS mobile app , and news stations. Learn more about how schedule changes are communicated .

Be sure to plan for the winter season. Update your contact information in SIS ParentVUE , bookmark the FCPS website, and arrange emergency child care if needed.

Winter Resources for Families

A list of resources has been compiled for students and families in case they or someone they know needs assistance while schools are closed for winter weather. Please visit FCPS’ winter resources page for information on academic support, mental health support, and county resources related to food, clothing, housing, and other needs.

Attendance Matters!

In Virginia, all children starting at age five (5) are required to attend school regularly. North Springfield ES staff must record student attendance every day school is in session.

All absences, whether excused and unexcused, count toward chronic absenteeism.  Chronic absenteeism is missing more than ten percent, or 18 days, of the full school year.  Attention to student attendance and active efforts to reduce chronic absenteeism is part of the new VDOE accreditation rating process for our school.

NSES staff can help children do their best learning when they are with us in school!  Families can help by:

  • Planning vacations or trips on days in which there is already no school schedule.
  • Having your child attend school before or after any appointments, such as a doctor or dentist visit.
  • Support your child in healthy practices, such as hand-washing, using tissue, covering coughs, eating healthy foods and getting a full-night's sleep.
  • Keeping children at home if they are sick with a fever, vomiting or diarrhea.  Also, please keep children home if they are contagious with pink eye, rash or strep throat.  This allows your child to get better and keeps others from getting sick.

Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting student success!

It's Kindergarten Registration Time!

Kindergarten program helps children learn and practice the social, emotional, problem-solving, and self-regulation skills they will use throughout their lives.

Fairfax County public schools typically conduct kindergarten registration events, including orientation, in the spring. Eligible children can be registered throughout the summer, but registering your child early helps schools prepare and ensure they have the teachers and resources needed on the first day of school.

If your child will attend our school, please gather necessary documents and complete registration forms as soon as possible.

FCPS offers support and resources for all families to help with registration and the transition to kindergarten. For support in other languages, please visit the FCPS Registration webpage
