10 Ways Wolftrap Will Wow You
Nurturing Every Learner!

Recognized for Academic Excellence
Wolftrap Elementary School has a demonstrated history of nurturing all students and exceeding high achievement goals. At Wolftrap, students are engaged not only by our rigorous Fairfax County curriculum, but also by our connections and dedication to nurturing all learning with our focus on Portrait of a Graduate skills to help our students grow into future ready leaders. Students regularly engage in D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything And Reflect) time, which is a research-driven best practice to bring together learning, and review their work through a lens of growth. We were recognized as the #4 Best Elementary School in Virginia by U.S. News and World Report in 2024.
Wolftrap has been recognized as Distinguishedunder Virginia’s new School Performance and Support Framework (SPSF). This rating, based on data from last school year, shows that our school is meeting or exceeding expectations set by the state around student performance. Our team is committed to keeping high expectations for learning, supporting each student’s unique strengths, and creating a school environment where every child feels welcomed, challenged, and cared for.
Enrichment through the Arts
Wolftrap Elementary School offers Band (grades 5-6), Strings (grades 4-6), and Chorus (grades 5-6). We also have annual class plays/musicals in grades 1, 5 and 6. Students also attend weekly art and music classes with certified art and music teachers, and enjoy creative, facilitated time in our STEAM lab, the CL3.
State-of-the-Art STEAM Lab
The Candace Leyton Learning Lab is Wolftrap Elementary School’s state-of-the-art STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) lab. It was donated by a former student in honor of his math teacher, Ms. Candace Leyton. Students visit regularly to practice applying their Portrait of a Graduate skills in a safe, open-ended, environment.

Walking Wednesdays
Every week Wolftrap Elementary School has Walking Wednesdays , when families stroll to school and students sign in for fun rewards — like colorful charms and the coveted Golden Sneaker! It's a chance to connect with neighbors, get some fresh air, and build a stronger school community. Plus, there's coffee! See us in action!

During World Heritage Night, families share their important cultural and home traditions with food and performances. We also have a Parent Panel that shares their experiences with school staff so that our teachers are prepared to welcome families each year.
Purple Star Designation
Wolftrap has earned the Virginia Purple Star Designation, which is awarded to military-friendly schools that have demonstrated a major commitment to students and families connected to our nation’s military. Through a rigorous application process, which included educator training, veteran-specific support, and the development of a student-led peer to peer support program, Wolftrap has a proven commitment to nurturing every student.

Wolftrap 5K and Fun Run and More!
This is an annual event that draws participation from all over the area! Other PTA-sponsored community events to connect families with our school include Bingo Night, Edison Expo (science fair), Faculty Volleyball Game, Skate Night, Talent Show, Wolftrap Under the Stars Picnic, and more!
Diverse Student Activities
Our student activities include Girls on the Run and Battle of the Books, which is a reading club and competition featuring sixth graders from Wolftrap and other FCPS schools. We also have a student-produced daily TV news program.

Community Support
We are also grateful for the support we receive from families! Your involvement makes a difference, and it plays an important role in helping our students succeed. Our students collect food not opened in the cafeteria and this food is donated to Food for Others, and students also partner with division schools to provide clothes and food for food banks.
