School Innovation & Improvement Plan

An at-a-glance look at outcome goals for this academic school year.

Our school goals have been set after collecting data from our fall assessments.

READING BY 3RD GRADE

Outcomes

  • By spring 2026, the % of students in second grade scoring in the high-risk category on the VALLSS screener will decrease by at least 5%, with particular focus on students with a Tier 3 reading plan.
    • 8 students out of 77 (10%) total are at high risk in second grade.
    • We will reduce the percentage by at least 5% with a goal of showing growth with all 8 students.
  • By the end of the 2025-2026 school year, the percentage of students in grades K-2 meeting or exceeding VALLSS screener benchmarks will increase by 5 percentage points from fall 2025 to spring 2026.
    • Fall data showed 64.6 % of students in grades K-3 met or exceeded the VALLSS screener benchmark.
    • By the spring 2026, students in grades K-3 who meet the benchmark will increase from 64.6% to at least 70%.

Strategies

  • Use of data from formative and summative assessments in the core curriculum to guide instructional decisions during tier 1 and tier 2 reading and writing instruction. (Ex. Data dialogues, CT Data discussions)
  • Improve integrity of implementation of new core curriculum: tailoring instruction to meet student needs aligned with evidence based literacy instruction. (Ex. Classroom walkthroughs, CT Planning, Coaching)

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL MATH

Outcomes

  • By spring 2026, the percentage of students in grades 3-6 scoring pass advanced on the math SOL will improve by at least 5% from 30% to 35% in those grades, as measured by the spring 2026 SOL test.
  • By spring 2026, % of students in grades 1-6 meeting or exceeding spring grade level benchmark will increase at least 5%, according to MAP testing, from fall benchmark.
    • 426 students tested: 2% scored 1st-20th percentile, 3% scored 21st-40th percentile, 10% scored 41st-60th percentile, 26% scored 61st-80th percentile, 59% scored greater than 80th percentile.
    • Our school goal will be to decrease the percentage of students scoring between the 1st and 60th percentile by at least 5%. That would increase the percentage of students in the 61st-80th percentile from, at least, 26% to 31% (5 percent). Additionally, we will set a goal to increase the number of students who score greater than 80% from 59% to 64%.

Strategies

  • Increase teacher implementation of explicit instruction and other components of effective mathematics intervention.
  • Improve alignment of instructional planning based on analysis of common assessments.
  • Increase teachers' implementation of balanced assessment strategies as related to Shift 8: from looking for correct answers towards revealing student thinking.

PORTRAIT OF A GRADUATE

Outcomes

  • By the end of School Year 2025 - 2026, 100% of students in Kindergarten - Grade 6 will engage in Portrait of a Graduate - Presentations of Learning - quarterly reflections and 100% of student reflections will be measured by the POG POL rubric in RUBI. Each grade level will organize a sharing session for the end of year culminating activity.

Strategies

  • Select a POG skill from the vertical articulation charts (Resource 1) to focus on with students and explicitly teach the skill.
  • Design and implement meaningful learning experiences such as performance tasks and Project Based Learning, where projects (Resource 1) will begin with a driving question and culminate in students creating a product, solving a problem, or delivering a presentation that can be shared with the wider community.
  • Engage students in reflections and planning (Resource 1) to share their growth in a Presentation of Learning.
