FCPS CARES of the Month Recipients

Central Office

Tanya Cork, Graham Road Community Center

" I can help you with that.” “I had a similar situation last year - I can send you a link.” “I think I know what you mean; let’s talk.” If you know Tanya Cork, itinerant teacher for Deaf and hard of hearing students for Fairfax County Public Schools, you’ve heard her say something along these lines more than once. Tanya is a truly exceptional educator whose professionalism, expertise, and dedication have made a lasting impact on students, families, and colleagues. With 22 years of experience traveling to schools to provide specialized services, Tanya has a deep understanding of the diverse needs of students with varying types and degrees of hearing loss. She is highly skilled in assessing and addressing areas that most impact academic achievement, including self-advocacy, phonological awareness, reading comprehension, and vocabulary development. An essential member of special education teams, Tanya contributes meaningfully to eligibility determinations for Hearing Impairment and Deafness and to the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Her work ensures that students receive the academic services and accommodations necessary to fully participate in the school day. She collaborates effectively with audiologists and demonstrates extensive knowledge of amplification equipment, including cochlear implants, hearing aids, and assistive listening devices. But what truly sets Tanya apart is her friendly, calm demeanor, her flexibility, and her problem-solving ability. She works seamlessly with co-workers, special education teams, and families, always approaching challenges with professionalism and a solutions-oriented mindset. Tanya’s commitment to student achievement and her unwavering dedication to her field are truly representative of the Fairfax County Public Schools commitment to excellence."

Flor Bermudez & Claudia Davila, Cunningham Park ES

“Claudia Davila is a true asset to both our school and our community. She is often the first face our parents see when they enter the building, and she greets every family with kindness and sensitivity. Claudia demonstrates excellent judgment and understands the delicate balance between being direct and compassionate when helping parents navigate concerns. Flor Bermudez is an exceptional clinic aide who demonstrates unwavering dedication to her work. She consistently builds strong, trusting relationships with students and their families, which allows her to respond effectively in critical situations. Recently, a student came to Flor feeling unwell. Because of her familiarity with the student, she quickly recognized that he was in severe distress and immediately called 911. Although the responding EMT initially believed the student did not require transport, the student’s mother—who was an hour away—trusted Flor’s judgment and requested that he be taken to the hospital. Claudia supported Flor in making the critical decision to promptly call for emergency services. The student was ultimately admitted in serious condition. Flor and Claudia’s attentiveness, professional judgment, and deep connection with the school community very likely played a crucial role in saving this student’s life. They are truly deserving of recognition and commendation for the vital work they do every day.”

Ileana Rios, Falls Church HS

" Ileana is our Dean of Students at Falls Church High School. Among the many students in her caseload, she continues to support students when they transfer to another school. It is rare to find an educator who views their "duty of care" as something that extends beyond the school’s physical boundaries or a student's enrollment status. Ileana, however, proved that her commitment is to the human being, not just the transcript. A student that she had connected with had moved on to another school within FCPS and then stopped attending. When alerted, Ileana intervened to explain to the student how the alternative school that had been presented to her was the best option. She also made herself available to join the student on the tour. Her personal connection and skill at helping the student see the value in her education made a positive impact on the student's future and well-being."

- Jessica Grenfell, Falls Church HS

Flora Chavez-Grieger, Clermont ES

"Flora Chavez-Grieger has consistently gone above and beyond for students with disabilities every year that I have had the pleasure to work with her. She cares deeply about the well-being and futures of all students and this is evident in how she treats every single student with respect, love, and concern. Mrs. Chavez advocates for her own children and uses knowledge from her own experiences to advocate for and accommodate the students she works with. She creates review packets on her own time for students to take home. She provides food and clothing to students in need, anticipates teacher and student needs before she is even asked, and communicates with families. Countless times, she has put together activities for special events, crafts for holidays, and academic tasks for all different subjects. She donates her time, skills, and personal belongings to our school and after-school events. Mrs. Chavez seeks out education on curriculum and programs that are beneficial to kids and attends events that advocate for students with disabilities. Whenever there is a spirit day, Mrs. Chavez goes all out, to the delight of students and teachers alike. She is creative, accepting, accommodating, understanding, caring, artistic, and generous with her time and love. Clermont is so lucky to have her."

Diana Lauria, Catherine Clarke, AJ Rodriguez & Sean Corcoran, South County HS

"Today started like any other day, but it quickly turned into a life-or-death crisis when one of our beloved bus attendants fell. In those first few moments of confusion and fear, these four individuals didn't hesitate. We have since learned that our colleague suffered a stroke, a condition where every single second is vital. Because of the immediate, decisive, and calm response from Catherine, Diana, Sean, and AJ, those seconds were not wasted. It is rare to see a team work with such selfless synchronization under extreme pressure. They provided not just medical assistance, but a sense of peace and dignity to our colleague during his most vulnerable moment. Their presence of mind allowed emergency services to take over exactly when they needed to, and medical professionals have confirmed that their quick actions are the reason he is alive today. Beyond their professional duties, what I witnessed was a profound display of humanity. They treated our colleague like a member of their own family. Their bravery has deeply impacted our entire department, reminding us all of the power of looking out for one another. Catherine, Diana, Sean, and AJ embody the very heart of the CARES mission. They didn't just meet a standard today, they exceeded it in a way that changed the course of a life. I am incredibly proud to work alongside these four heroes, and I believe there is no one more deserving of this honor."

- Connie Gibson, South County HS

Jessica Suh, Westfield HS

" Ms. Suh has gone above and beyond to provide support to my student after the loss of a classmate. Although she is not one of his teachers this year, she sought him out, inquired into his well-being, invited him to her class during off periods, and included him in conversations about end of the year activities and ceremonies as she is the 2026 class sponsor. Ms. Suh allowed space for my student to talk about ways they could honor and remember his friend who should be graduating with him. Since engaging with Ms. Suh, he decided to attend prom and has had input into decisions about his senior year events. She was there for him when no one else was. Ms. Suh went out of her way to ensure my child received the support and check in that he needed. I cannot think of a better reason to deserve recognition by FCPS. Thank you, Ms. Suh for turning my son’s senior year tragedy into hope."

Kendra Trainer, Hayfield ES

"Once a week, I take two of my CAT-B Work and Transition students across the street from Hayfield Secondary to Hayfield Elementary to work with Ms. Trainer, the school reading specialist. Ms. Trainer has treated myself and my students with so much love and respect, and we couldn't be more thankful to have the opportunity to work with her. Ms. Trainer has given my kids the chance to develop valuable vocational skills that will help them to achieve future independence and self-sufficiency, which is all anyone could ever want for their students. She has dedicated her invaluable time to ensuring that my students get to be successful in the future, something that I am beyond thankful for. CAT-B kids can so easily miss out on socialization opportunities and the chance to feel special, and I couldn't be happier that Ms. Trainer has allowed these kids to act as mini-celebrities at Hayfield Elementary. Thanks to her, they look forward to going to work every single week! Ms. Trainer is patient, kind, and generous, and we are beyond lucky to get to work with her! Thank you for all you do Ms. Trainer "

Other FCPS CARES Submission

Colene Luczak, Herndon MS

"Ms. Luczak has made an extraordinary impact on our family and is deserving of an FCPS CARES. From the beginning of a middle school - a notoriously challenging time of adjustment for many students - she has been an exceptional counselor for our special needs daughter because of the way she truly connects with students and meets them where they are. She relates to kids with honesty, warmth, and authenticity, while always treating them with dignity and respect. It is clear that she genuinely cares about each student as a whole person, not just their academic success. She consistently goes above and beyond to support her students, and her empathy and compassion shine through in every interaction. What has meant even more to me is the kindness and support Ms. Luczak has shown to us as parents. In a relatively short amount of time, she was able to understand so much about what our child and family have been navigating. To feel seen and understood in that way has been incredibly meaningful. Ms. Luczak’s ability to support not only students, but entire families, is a rare gift. Her dedication, insight, and heart make a lasting difference in the lives of those lucky enough to know her.

Alexa Scott, Christy Ryder & Molly Redican, Skyview HS

"I want to take a moment to recognize and celebrate our incredible counseling team at Skyview: Molly Redican, Christy Ryder, and Alexa Scott for their outstanding commitment to our community through the FCPS CARES program. They generously gave their personal time to ensure that each of our new families felt seen, supported, and truly welcomed. From the moment families arrived, their warmth, professionalism, and genuine care were unmistakable. They didn’t just share information they built connections. They listened, reassured, and created a sense of belonging that set the tone for a positive transition into our school. Because of their efforts, our event became more than just an introduction it became an experience where families felt safe, valued, and excited about the journey ahead. Their expertise is exceptional, but even more impactful is who they are as people compassionate, dedicated, and deeply invested in the well-being of every student and family they serve. We are incredibly fortunate to have them as part of the Skyview community."

Michael Hrabak, Brian Stagliano, Maliha Ahmad & Haile Russom, Wilton Woods Center

"’I'd like to recognize four colleagues who really went out of their way to help me: Michael Hrabak and Brian Stagliano from the TAA Group, and Maliha Ahmad and Haile Russom from the Reporting Office. They jumped in to help get my cubicle and monitor set up and and working in a way that actually makes sense for me. They ran cables, installed and adjusted my monitors, and helped figure out a setup that’s functional and comfortable for me. I hadn’t been able to make these kinds of adjustments myself, and had more or less resigned into a setup that wasn’t ideal. Their willingness to step in and take the time to get everything right made a real difference. I was beyond touched and can't explain how appreciative I am of their support. I really appreciate their help, teamwork, and the way they showed up for a friend and colleague. This is exactly what a strong team and a supportive, family-like work environment look like in action. This is exactly what FCPS CARES looks like. Thank you all for your help/support!"

-Mariam Suqi, Wilton Woods Center

Doris Charles, Gatehouse Admin Center

"I am writing to share my deep appreciation for Ms. Doris Charles. Recently, I’ve been working with her regarding some personal circumstances, and she truly went above and beyond. Doris stood out because, she responded to every request immediately. She didn't just listen; she took direct action on every concern I raised. Most of all she balanced high-level professionalism with genuine care. Employees like Doris make FCPS a better place to work. I wanted to ensure her hard work and dedication were recognized."

-Jane Iyengar, Fairfax County Community Member

Danielle Burgos, Baileys Upper ES

"Danielle Burgos has made the library a happy home for my SOL review groups! Not only does she keep a great dynamic and space for kids visiting the library, she hosts multiple small groups as well as students from the Davis center who work in the library. Everyone feels welcome and has a great space to work and learn. Danielle also manages her own small groups as well as classes in the library and keeps everyone engaged and learning while in this space. She delivered brand new books to all students at Bailey's Upper, which they got to pick from popular titles such as Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Bad Guys, Babysitters Club, and books in Spanish. Thank you for making all of our time in the BUpper library fun and for supporting readers and teachers!"

- Ellen Cosier, Baileys Upper ES

Karen Taylor, Willow Oaks Admin Center

"Karen Taylor, from the Get2Green office came to our school to help with our gardens. She listened patiently, observed all of our outdoor garden areas and provided personalized recommendations on the spot and in follow up emails after research. She encouraged us and enthusiastically shared her vast botanical knowledge with us in service to Haycock's gardens. We are thankful for her advice and expertise. FCPS benefits greatly from her deep roots of knowledge!"

- Jeannie Sklar, Haycock ES

Enza Giannone-Hosig, Emily Ready & Hanah Wooten, Herndon MS

"I would like Dr. GH to be especially recognized, along with Ms. Ready and Ms. Wooten, "the dream team", for putting on an AMAZING spring production, Newsies Jr. This weekend, audiences from near and far came to Herndon Middle School to experience magic, and see the culmination of months of hard work. Yes, our kids were incredible! But they wouldn’t have been able to accomplish what they did without these three amazing teachers believing in them, putting in the extra hours to work with them after school and on weekends, to draw out their talents. Our school has been without a principal since November, and I have not been worried about my child. Mostly because of her incredible teachers! The beginning of the year was hard because, like many middle schoolers, she felt she didn’t have enough electives. Thankfully she has been able to try different after school Night Hawk activities, and was able to audition for Newsies Jr, even though (much to her dismay) she could not take drama or choir as electives. It has been a gift for her to have this outlet. I only hope that all middle schoolers would get a chance to work with these incredible women, and find their creative outlet too. Thank you for being so inspiring! Your commitment to your work is transferred to the kids, turned into beautiful art, and every single audience member this weekend felt it- the chills, the tears, and most of all the inspiration! Am I going about my day, singing about kids on the streets with no shoes on their feet? Yes I am. Because it was a powerful show. And I know the kids who worked on this play have had months to let these powerful messages sink in. Thank you, thank you, thank you! There’s change coming once and for alllllll…."

Mona Johnson-Phillips, Nancy Sprague Technology Center

"I am writing to express my sincere appreciation for Mona Johnson-Phillips' outstanding leadership in guiding the identification, procurement, and implementation of the ClickUp project management platform. Her vision and persistence were instrumental in moving this initiative from concept to reality. By serving as a strong advocate for adoption across multiple groups, she helped ensure that ClickUp was not only implemented, but meaningfully embraced as a tool to improve collaboration, transparency, and efficiency across the organization. In particular, her role as the IT lead in the partnership with Procurement Services to replace the Contract Request and Management System (CRAMS) stands out as a significant achievement. Navigating the complexities of cross-functional collaboration while delivering a modern, scalable solution required both strategic insight and careful execution—both of which she demonstrated consistently throughout the effort. She did this while also fostering a strong and productive partnership with the vendor, ensuring effective collaboration throughout the implementation process. Her leadership also played the key role in the IT Project Management team being recognized with the Innovation in Project Management Award at the Project Management Institute’s Washington, DC Chapter 2025 Annual Conference. This recognition is a direct reflection of the impact of Mona's work and the standard of excellence she brings to her role. I want to thank her for her dedication, initiative, and the lasting contributions she has made through this effort. Her work has positioned the organization for continued success and innovation."

- Michael Edwards, Nancy Sprague Technology Center

Dorie Johanns, Laura Gill, Na Connelly, Amal Joseph, Holly DiPierto & Thanh Dang, Bonnie Brae ES

"Thank you, Bonnie Brae Early Childhood Teaching Team! I want to say thank you to the teachers for welcoming a new teaching team into their preschool classrooms. The flexibility and grace displayed by the Bonnie Brae staff were truly remarkable. The team made everyone feel incredibly comfortable while maintaining the flow of their engaging and exciting instruction. This visit has already had a positive impact on the new teaching team, as observing the intentionality behind the classroom interactions and seeing how cohesively the team can work together. Your time and expertise was greatly appreciated."

- Erin Snell, Bonnie Brae ES

Haley Witt, Fort Hunt ES

"Haley Witt is a shining example of kindness, compassion, and inspiration, with a passion for learning that is simply inspiring. Her gentle soul and listening heart make her a treasure to all who know her. My Kindergarten class described her perfectly- beautiful, fun, and funky! I look forward to hearing the joyful strumming of her guitar, bringing happiness to our youngest friends!"

-April Mae Medina, Fort Hunt ES

Claudia Flores, Mount Eagle ES

"Claudia serves as an essential bridge between our school and our diverse community, ensuring that every family feels seen, heard, and supported. Whether she is navigating language barriers to help families access supports or coordinating essential resources like food and clothing, her approach is rooted in deep empathy and dignity. Claudia doesn't just provide services; she builds relationships that empower parents to become active participants in their children’s education, transforming the school from a building they visit into a community they belong to. Beyond her advocacy for students, Claudia supports our school’s broader initiatives. Her ability to mobilize volunteers and increase parental engagement has been the catalyst for the success of family nights, continuing education opportunities like learning English through Summit K12, and cultural celebrations. Her tireless work ethic and unwavering commitment to equity have created a more inclusive environment where every student, and their families, have a better chance to succeed. She is truly a driving force in our school community."

-Corinne Conner, Mount Eagle ES

Dawn Meltzer, Lemon Road ES

"I wanted to pass along my kudos to Ms. Meltzer for her support of her students. She has been a phenomenal band teacher at Lemon Road this year. She encouraged my daughter to participate in the FCPS solo and ensemble festival and she was there early on Saturday morning (8:30!) cheering on my daughter and the other Lemon Road students. Her presence and chat definitely calmed my daughter's nerves. I am so touched by Ms. Meltzer's dedication to her students and the Lemon Road music program."

-a Lemon Road ES parent

Katy Smallwood, Robinson Secondary

"As the Work Awareness and Transition (WAT) teacher at Robinson, Katy is a vital member of the CAT-B team. She helps students gain work experience and explore career centers within FCPS to further their job skills. She builds strong relationships with students and maintains regular communication with families. Most recently, she hosted a WAT Appreciation Breakfast for employers who work with our students to attend. She had student speakers, a video, decorations and simply went above and beyond to make the employers as well as the students feel valued and appreciated. Katy always has a positive attitude and is willing to be a team player. We are so grateful for her dedication and love having her as a member of the Robinson community!"

- Chelsea Harris, Robinson Secondary

Noah Hwang, Wilton Woods Center

"Dr. Hwang is nothing short of amazing. He is an 'unsung hero' behind a variety of district initiatives that rely on the importance of timely and accurate data and his attentiveness to the user-end of things is, simply put, unparalleled. Because of his efforts to put in place systems that complete repetitive tasks so many FCPS staff and leaders are provided information that might otherwise take hours and days to compile in a district as large as ours. I am particularly appreciative of his recent support in developing a district-wide extraction process to help with what were historically only available as school level reports from the Parent Digital Consent (PDC) system to help support a variety of initiatives that support students and families. Dr. Hwang's responsiveness and professionalism are consistently exceptional and, at the end of the day, he never passes on the opportunity to help. Noah, thank you. FCPS is a better school district because of your efforts."

- Brandon Kosatka, Gatehouse Admin Center

Kristin Bauersfeld & Laure Grove, Terra Centre ES

"I would like to recognize Kristin Bauersfeld and Laure Grove for their outstanding Watershed Festival and Art Show at Terra Centre. It was truly a wonderful event. My daughter was so excited to attend, and as a parent, you can’t ask for anything better than a child who wants to go to school beyond regular hours. I can only imagine the amount of planning that went into this event, especially with the wide range of interactive learning opportunities available. Some of the organizations I remember include Plant NOVA Natives, the Fairfax County Soil and Water Conservation District, Virginia State Parks, Fairfax Master Naturalists, local Girl Scout troops, the Fairfax County Department of Public Works, Stormwater Management, the Northern Virginia Bird Alliance, and the Terra Centre Get2Green Club. The time and effort invested in this event were clearly evident and deserve to be recognized. The art show was phenomenal and beautifully connected to Earth Day across all grade levels. The glow-in-the-dark hallway was a particular favorite for our family. We sincerely hope this becomes a yearly tradition. Thank you for creating such a meaningful and engaging experience for students and families."

-a Terra Centre ES parent

Kathleen Newton, Robinson Secondary

"My tenth grader was struggling in PE class due to severed anxiety. She was avoiding PE class and not completing assignments. Ms. Newton discovered what was going on and immediately reached out to me to talk about it. Once I explained why my daughter was doing what she was doing, Ms. Newton immediately began to come up with a solution to help my daughter complete her PE requirements but also feel comfortable at school. She worked with my daughter to be successful and took the time to connect with her. I know there are so many students in a PE class, and my quiet daughter could have gone unnoticed. We are truly grateful to Ms. Newton for going above and beyond what is required. She truly took the time to connect and care. We are so very grateful to Ms. Newton for taking what was a miserable and terrifying situation for our daughter and turning it into something manageable."

-a Robinson Secondary parent

Giuliana Lamm, Edison HS

"It has been a true inspiration to collaborate with Ms. Giuliana Lamm, ESOL teacher at Edison High School, and witness firsthand the intentional, high-impact environment that she has cultivated for her students. In particular, I want to highlight the extraordinary effort she has invested in supporting a multilingual learner student with a disability. Upon reflecting on how to differentiate and remove barriers to ensure that this student is not just present in class, but actively participating in the learning, she has created a truly equitable environment. Furthermore, her proactive outreach to the family has empowered them to become active partners. By implementing collaborative structures, she creates meaningful learning experiences for every student regardless of their starting point. In addition, her consistency with routines and procedures provides the essential "predictability" that language learners need to lower their affective filter. Because they feel safe and supported, everyone is taking the linguistic risks necessary to acquire English with confidence. Thank you for setting such a high standard for what inclusive ELD instruction can look like."

- Shiho Thompson, Willow Oaks Admin Center

Katie Server & Steven Myers, Willow Oaks Admin Center

"I would like to recognize Katie Server and Steven Myers for their exceptional time and dedication to the Goal Innovation Team (Equity in Academic Advising). They’ve invested significant hours into researching student mentoring and ambassador programming within and outside of FCPS. Their work provided the strategic foundation in re-thinking how we serve not only our students who are transitioning into FCPS, but our future work in supporting all FCPS students as they transition from elementary to middle school and middle to high school. Their ability to transform complex research into tangible ideas for supporting students and families has been instrumental to the team's success."

- Jennifer Bury, Gatehouse Admin Center

Maurice Leake & Adrian Rivadeneira, Forte Center

"Adrian and Maurice both went above and beyond and delivered (unpacked) pallets of tables (90) at our gym. We asked last minute to change the delivery location from the lobby to the gym. They readily adjusted and completed the request with a smile! Shout out to both of them."

- Holly McGuigan, Kent Gardens ES

Maria Nasiry, Willow Oaks Admin Center

"As the front desk receptionist at Willow Oaks, Maria is often the first face people see, and she represents the very best of Fairfax County Public Schools through her exceptional work ethic, meticulous attention to detail, and "can-do" attitude. In my role with the Office of Professional Learning (OPL), I frequently work with Maria on room reservation requests. Maria’s dedication goes far beyond basic data entry. When a request is initially denied due to scheduling conflicts, she doesn't just close the file; she keeps those requests in mind and independently monitors the calendar during her limited downtime. It is not uncommon to receive an unexpected email from Maria notifying us of a last-minute cancellation or a newly available opening. In an environment where we are all stretched thin, her proactive support is a breath of fresh air that allows our team to succeed under pressure. Beyond her internal support, Maria is a true steward of the community. Because our offices share space with Inova medical facilities, Maria’s desk often becomes a de facto "welcome center" for the entire building. I have personally witnessed her go above and beyond to assist bewildered community members—often helping them find medical offices, coordinating transportation, or directing them to locations entirely outside of the 8270 Willow Oaks building. Maria treats every person she encounters with dignity and kindness, fostering a genuine "FCPS Family" feel. She doesn't just manage a desk; she manages relationships and represents our division at the highest level. Maria embodies the spirit of service, and we are incredibly lucky to have her on our team."

- David Raich, Willow Oaks Admin Center

Alexa Scott, Chantilly HS

"Alexa recently went above and beyond to support a student who has faced severe challenges due to significant housing and school instability. Because this student moved frequently across districts and even within this school year, his underlying needs had unfortunately fallen through the cracks. Alexa refused to let him be 'just another face' in a transition. She took the initiative to meticulously piece together his history and advocate for the special education services he has long deserved. Thanks to Alexa’s persistence, there will now be an official record of the supports he needs to succeed. Her work ensures that no matter where this student’s journey takes him next, his future teachers will have the roadmap necessary to serve him effectively. Alexa didn’t just fill out paperwork; she secured this student’s right to an equitable education."

- Thomas Usry, Chantilly HS

April Medina, Fort Hunt ES

"April Medina greets everyone with open arms and a warm smile, creating an immediate sense of belonging the moment you enter her classroom. She fosters a welcoming, inclusive environment that celebrates every student, approaching each child with a positive and affirming perspective. Through her thoughtful approach, she cultivates a space where students feel comfortable being themselves and are consistently seen for their strengths. April, thank you for showing warmth and kindness to students, families, and staff. You are truly making a difference! We’re so lucky to have you!"

-Charmaine Pritchard, Fort Hunt ES

Xuyuan Wang, Stonecroft Transportation

"Xuyuan stepped in and picked up a field trip on short notice. His flexibility and willingness to help ensured that everything ran smoothly despite the last-minute change. We truly appreciate his professionalism, reliability, and commitment to supporting our students and staff!"

- Colleen Murphy, Great Falls ES

Angie Hudgins, Stonecroft Transportation

"Angie stepped in and picked up a field trip on short notice. Her flexibility and willingness to help ensured that everything ran smoothly despite the last-minute change. We truly appreciate her professionalism, reliability, and commitment to supporting our students and staff!"

- Colleen Murphy, Great Falls ES

Cassandra Jones Randolph, Stonecroft Transportation

"Cassandra stepped up and went above and beyond to help me secure buses at the last minute. When I dropped the ball, she jumped in without hesitation, handled the situation quickly and calmly, and made sure everything was taken care of. Her willingness to support and problem-solve under pressure truly made a difference, and I’m incredibly grateful for her help!"

- Colleen Murphy, Great Falls ES

Kirsten Walker, Lake Braddock Secondary

"Ms. Walker showed the FCPS music community such kindness and flexibility. Her assistance in the logistical aspects of utilizing the facility allowed us to feel extra prepared and welcome at LBSS. It's communication skills and attention to detail like Ms. Walker's that helped our roughly 670 students come to LBSS on festival weekend and feel safe and completely immersed in the music making process."

-Jamie Shumaker, Hunt Valley ES

Mika Allen, Lemon Road ES

"She consistently goes above and beyond to create a nurturing, engaging, and highly supportive classroom environment, and her dedication exemplifies the spirit of this recognition. One of the most remarkable tools Ms. Allen brings to her classroom is the incorporation of "mindful moments" into the daily routine. Taking about five minutes, she introduces catchy, fun, and age-appropriate videos and songs that teach the students invaluable life skills. These short sessions cover everything from learning coping mechanisms for stress and building a better appreciation for the things around them, to navigating how to process and learn from mistakes. She even uses these moments to teach the children how to safely and respectfully set boundaries when someone is doing something they do not like. The impact of these daily lessons on the students' emotional intelligence and confidence is profound. Beyond her incredible work with the students during the day, Ms. Allen does an exceptional job of keeping parents connected to the classroom. Her informative weekly updates and the photos she sends home provide a wonderful, transparent window into our children's day-to-day activities. It is incredibly comforting to see the joy and engagement in the classroom firsthand, and her consistent communication makes us feel like true partners in our children’s education. It is rare to find a teacher who cares so deeply not just about her students' academic progress, but about equipping them with emotional tools and fostering a strong classroom community. Ms. Allen is a true asset to Fairfax County Public Schools and incredibly deserving of this recognition."

Stacey Robinette, Franklin MS

" I have been subbing at Franklin MS a few days a week this year and get to know Stacey. She never fail greeting me with a big smile when I get there early in the morning. I received a call from Chantilly HS on 4/20 Mon around 1.20pm that my child suffered an anaphylactic reaction. He was going to inject an epi pen and school would followed the protocol by calling 911 for ambulance. I did not have students with me during then and know that Ms Bush will be co teach in my class the next period. I rush to the office and explained to Stacey what happened and asked her to give me a ride to Chantilly HS as I did not have a car that day. She was so kind to give a ride to Chantilly HS and calm me down on the way there. Stacey had did what beyond her job to give me a ride. I really appreciate her. Thank you so much Stacey."

Ms. Matis's support is incalculable and I am thankful to work alongside her."

Angela Almond, Lake Braddock Secondary

"We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Angela Almond and the Lake Braddock custodial team for their outstanding support during the FCPS 6th Grade All-County Choral Festival. Their organization and professionalism ensured that everything ran smoothly behind the scenes, allowing the event to be enjoyable for all attendees. They consistently went above and beyond whenever assistance was needed during the festival weekend, responding quickly and thoughtfully to requests throughout the day. Their dedication did not go unnoticed—many parents specifically commented on how exceptionally clean and well-maintained the restrooms were, especially impressive given the large number of guests in attendance. Their hard work, attention to detail, and commitment to maintaining a welcoming environment played a vital role in the event’s success. We are truly grateful for their efforts and the pride they take in their work."

- Kim Kunzler, Haycock ES

Scott Darwin, Lake Braddock Secondary

"Mr. Darwin showed us the utmost support and was a wonderful representative of the LBSS community. They were extremely proactive and solution driven. During an unexpected community use event, he went above and beyond to ensure a smooth festival day. He was not only an attentive listener during our walk-through in January, but took notes and action. The ACCF team had a great experience working with Mr. Darwin!

Wafika Albani, Dunn Loring Center

" When we moved to the United States in 2024, I enrolled my children in FCPS and was given the contact card for the Arabic-speaking family liaison. From the moment I reached out, she welcomed me with such warmth, making sure all our questions were answered. She even jumped in to help us as parents! I shared that we, the parents, wanted to learn English - she immediately got us pointed in the right direction, giving us everything we needed to start our own English learning journey. Since then, she has always been there for us and ready to help, whether it is about our children’s school experience or our own English-learning goals. A big heartfelt thank you – we are deeply grateful!

Jamie Leitch, Floris ES

"As we honor military-connected students during the Month of the Military Child, it is especially important to also recognize the amazing staff who support and advocate for their unique needs. Ms. Jamie Leitch of Floris Elementary School embodies the Purple Star initiative and is deserving of recognition under FCPS’ CARES program. During my child’s IEP eligibility meeting, Ms. Leitch demonstrated exceptional insight into the challenges faced by military families. As we anticipate potential relocation, ensuring continuity of services across duty stations was a critical concern. Despite prevailing pressure to qualify my child under a single category, Ms. Leitch calmly and confidently advocated for IEP eligibility reflecting both of his diagnosed conditions. She ensured the IEP team fully understood that without proper documentation in both categories, essential services could be disrupted during a future move. In the face of differing opinions and reassurances that the current support from the school were sufficient, Ms. Leitch remained steadfast in her advocacy, ultimately securing dual eligibility and protecting my child’s access to necessary services regardless of location. Her actions went beyond procedural compliance. They ensured continuity, stability, and long-term support for a military-connected student navigating an already complex system. Ms. Leitch’s leadership, integrity, and unwavering commitment to doing what is right exemplifies the spirit and intent of the Purple Star program."

Buki Peters, Haycock ES

"Ms. Peters has fostered a remarkable "classroom family" where peer recognition is a cornerstone of daily life. Through her initiative, "See something good? Say something kind," students are encouraged to celebrate one another’s efforts, kindness, and inclusivity. By consistently highlighting the unique value each student brings to the group, she has bolstered both collective relationships and individual confidence. This practice provides students with meaningful moments of recognition from both peers and teachers—achievements they are often proud to share with their families. Most impressively, this culture of kindness has extended beyond the classroom walls, influencing how her students interact with the entire school community."

- Catie Bartczak, Haycock ES

David Reynolds Jr., Vienna ES

"Shout out to Dave for all of his incredible help! I consistently see his presence in our Zoom chats supporting questions across the board. His knowledge spans everything from technical issues to news studio fixes and everything in between. Recently, he helped me troubleshoot an issue with Adobe Podcast. A class at my school wanted to create podcasts to showcase their learning at the end of a benchmark unit. I had tested Adobe Podcast (an amazing tool) as both a teacher and a student, built my lesson, and was ready to go. That morning, I found out the main feature was blocked for student use. I had to quickly shift to a short-term solution while also trying to figure out a long-term fix. Dave jumped in right away. He helped me get a temporary solution in place so the lesson could move forward, and he also took the time to dig into what was actually happening. He helped me provide detailed information to Adobe support, made sense of their technical responses, and pinpointed the problem. He then guided us on exactly what to submit for an website unblock request for our schools. Because of his efforts, the tool was not only restored for our school, but it was also unblocked across the entire county. Now all students can use this platform to share their creativity and voice. I know we are thankful over at Navy. I really appreciate when someone takes the time to dig in and find solutions. Especially when the issue doesn’t directly impact them. Thank you, Dave! You are invaluable."

- Chrissy McLaughlin, Navy ES

Vince Wang, Nancy Sprague Technology Center

" Whenever my team and I face technical issues, I know we can rely on Vince at the service desk for support. He always goes above and beyond to ensure our problems are resolved quickly, allowing us to stay on track with our work. She was present throughout the crisis and faithfully reached out to us afterwards, following up with all of our questions, requests, and concerns in a way that gave us confidence, peace, and a consistent sense of value and inclusion. Jessica Francis, Laurel Ridge ES

"When our daughter suffered a health emergency, Ms. Francis responded with prompt professionalism, clear-thinking sensitivity, and warm concern. She communicated clearly with us throughout our daughter's absence, provided a thorough account of the health incident for our doctors, and even visited our home to express her concern and support. Ms. Francis has consistently held her students to high academic standards while also making them feel included and valued members of the classroom community. We are thankful for her dedication!"

Corinne Conner, Mount Eagle ES

"Mrs. Conner is a wonderful example of a dedicated teacher. She truly cares about her students, and this is reflected in the strong, positive relationships she builds with them. It’s clear that her students respect and appreciate her just as much. She stands out for her engaging and enjoyable teaching style, which makes learning a fun experience. She is also always willing to help students outside of class time, whenever they need support. Her patience and attention to each student show her genuine passion for teaching and her love for her subject."

-Karim Ahmed, Mount Eagle ES

Veronica Moldoveanu, Chantilly HS

"My son began oral immunotherapy for his chronic food allergies during his senior year, and undergoes bi-weekly “up-dosing” to gradually build tolerance with the hope of eventually consuming his allergens safely. His daily doses may cause side effects like stomach discomfort and itchy throat, sometimes leading to missed classes. Additionally, his allergy appointments occur during the last period of the school day, which happened to be Ms. Moldoveanu class, resulting in some absences. Ms. Moldoveanu has been my son’s math teacher both during his sophomore year and again this year. I am truly grateful for the genuine care and understanding she has shown him. She consistently checks in on her students and goes above and beyond to support them. When my son missed three classes last week, she thoughtfully reached out to my wife to understand the situation and expressed concern about his ability to stay on track for the upcoming AP exam. Her kindness, attentiveness, and flexibility have made a meaningful difference for my son, and our entire family deeply appreciates her support."

-a Chantilly HS parent

Buki Peters, Haycock ES

"Ms. Peters goes above and beyond to spread kindness at our school! Within her classroom, Ms. Peters exemplifies kindness and it spreads to her students. In her class, she has "See something good, say something kind" in which students recognize good deeds and kind acts from others. This spreads kindness throughout not just her classroom, but our grade level and school. Students begin to see more good, say more kind things, and pay it forward. Ms. Peters is also kind and supportive to her colleagues. Her positivity brightens the building and her smile is contagious. She always recognizes and thanks colleagues, making everyone around her feel appreciated. This is her first year at Haycock, and I am so grateful to have her as a teammate!"

- Christina Wisniewski, Haycock ES

Brooke Altschuler, Ravensworth ES

" I am writing to recognize Ms. Brooke Altschuler for her exceptional dedication to her first-grade students’ emotional well-being and sense of belonging. She consistently goes above and beyond her role to ensure that every child, regardless of whether they have a formal support plan, is treated with the individual care they need to feel safe and successful. What sets Ms. Altschuler apart is her intuition and heart. Even though my daughter does not have a formal special education plan, her teacher recognizes her unique needs and goes out of her way to facilitate modifications and accommodations. She doesn't wait for a mandate to act; she simply does what is necessary to ensure my daughter feels safe, capable, and that she belongs. Her dedication was never more evident than when my daughter arrived at school deeply upset. Rather than asking her to simply "sit down and start work," Ms. Altschuler recognized her distress and took her for a quick walk to help her process her "big feelings." This simple act of empathy completely turned my daughter's day around and allowed her to return to the classroom ready to learn. She uses these moments as teaching opportunities. My daughter comes home sharing new vocabulary, stories from books, and real-world experiences that help her understand how to be a better citizen and a more resilient problem solver. The level of peace and confidence my daughter feels at school is a direct result of Ms. Altschuler's extra effort. She creates a "safety net" for her students that allows them to soar academically. She is an asset to FCPS and a hero in our family's eyes."

"A huge thank you to Lesley Pang, Database Engineer with Student Systems, for her work on this year's Application Audit preparations. This process is always a heavy lift, but Lesley’s technical expertise, dedication, and commitment made a noticeable difference. The IT FASTeam has seen a massive improvement in our workflow since the previous audit cycle. It is clear that Lesley’s hard work allowed the team to hit its our goals in record time. Her contributions were pivotal to the success of our Student Information System clean up this year, and we truly appreciate the collaboration"

Anice Denton, Fox Mill ES

"I’d like to recognize a little about Ms. Anice Denton, Assistant Principal at Fox Mill Elementary, for the meaningful ways she shows up for our kids every single day. My daughter goes to her when she’s having a hard day. Ms. Denton really listens, and then offers the kind of thoughtful, practical guidance that helps her feel validated and confident that she can face the day. You can feel Ms. Denton's positive presence at the school. She’s always there, greeting kids and parents with a smile, making all of us feel welcome. She's the first to jump in to help when she sees something needs to be done. When the crossing guard doesn't show up, she jumps in and doesn't look for someone else to pass the job to. When the kids come in late or return to school and she's in the main office, she voluntarily walks them to class. She makes the school better simply by being there and showing up as her authentically caring, intentional person she is. My daughter talks fondly of her every week, often noticing how she shows up for them. Ms. Denton is an exceptional leader and role model for our kids. She deserves to know how appreciated and loved she really is at Fox Mill."

Julie Braden, Laurel Hill ES

"So many things go on “Behind the Scenes” or just without others knowing. Without going into specifics, since a student was involved, I wanted to recognize Julie Braden, one of our wonderful PE teachers at Laurel Hill ES. Julie Braden has been an amazing role model, mentor, and adult figure for one of our students. She shows a tremendous amount of love, patience, and care for this child. This child’s life has been positively impacted by all that she has done for him. She is someone he will no doubt remember for the rest of his life as someone who showed such love and care for him. Julie deserves much recognition for this for going above and beyond her calling as a teacher."

Darlene Doley, Vienna ES

"I would like to give a shoutout to our reading specialist, Darlene Doley. Throughout the year, she has been invaluable to both the teachers and students here at our school. She gets to know the students she works with and is a calm, reassuring, and encouraging presence. She meets the students where they are at and helps them grow as readers and writers. The patience and support she gives to her students is to be commended. Darlene has many roles that she has taken on for school. I appreciate her notes after the STAC meetings, to help us all stay informed. She handles dismissal with efficiency. She recently came into our classroom and stepped up to help when a student was having a difficult time. Darlene just rolls with whatever is happening or asked of her. After reading a story to the rest of the class, she came up with an activity for them to do that was fun, engaging, and creative. She is so supportive and willing to offer suggestions, advice, and be a sounding board. Her trust and respect of teachers as educators and professionals is evident. Her wisdom, humor, flexibility, and friendliness are much appreciated. Our school is a better place with her in it!"

Thanks to her, we were able to handle everything smoothly. The school was quick to respond and we found the the entire staff eager to help—we truly appreciate Ms. Albani and the entire school staff! "Elementary Language Arts would like to thank the first grade team and Reading Specialist at Lees Corner ES for participating in our phonics enhancement pilot. This team was one of several who graciously offered to try some new lesson structures to make the phonics instruction in Benchmark Advance more explicit for our first grade students here in FCPS. This team offered to have us come to their classrooms and observe these lessons and meet with us for a shared feedback session on what was and was not working with these lessons. Seeing this project in action was incredibly helpful to us as we consider how to improve the instructional routines and expand this enhancement to more schools, reaching many more Grade 1 students. It was wonderful to see the great work this team is doing and the caring environments they have created for their students, while also modeling what it means to be a learner and a risk-taker. We thank you for your hard work and dedication to ensuring your students are getting the best instruction we can provide."

Elizabeth Weyrauch, Whitman MS

"Every quarter, Whitman has celebrated our Honor Roll students with a doughnut celebration. Unfortunately, this year, due to budget cuts, we weren't sure how we could afford to provide them for the students. Liz and her neighborhood community stepped right in and have been providing over 300 doughnuts to our students every quarter this year. Even when she was on vacation with her family, she ensured the order was placed and ready for us to pick up for our celebration. We are so thankful for her thoughtfulness and support of our Wildcat scholars!"

Maria Incer Nunez, Mantua ES

"I would like to sincerely thank and nominate our teacher organizer, Maria Incer Nunez, for her outstanding leadership in planning and executing Family Culture Night at Mantua Elementary. This was her first time leading the event, and she handled every detail with remarkable care, professionalism, and thoughtfulness. Her communication with families was always timely, clear, and respectful, which made parents feel informed and supported throughout the planning process. What stood out most was how far above and beyond she went to make the evening both welcoming and safe for everyone. Even with last-minute requests, she graciously stepped in to help — including printing signs for all 50+ dishes submitted by parents that clearly listed ingredients so attendees with allergies could make informed choices. That extra effort made a meaningful difference and showed how deeply she cared about every family’s experience. Because of her dedication, Family Culture Night was not only a success, but also a beautiful reflection of the Mantua community. Her hard work created a space where families could come together, celebrate their cultures, and appreciate the diversity that makes Mantua such a special school. We are incredibly grateful for her leadership, generosity, and commitment to our school community."

Samantha Goldstein, Fairview ES

"Samantha Goldstein, principal of Fairview Elementary, helped ensure our youngest daughter felt included and seen as a military connected child by including her in their annual breakfast for military connected students and including our family on upcoming communication. While we, her parents, are not military, our oldest daughter is a second-year cadet at the Coast Guard Academy. So, even though SIS does not indicate our child as military connected, Ms. Goldstein and the Fairview staff now do. Our youngest has lots of feelings related to her sister being at the Academy, what it means for her sister’s future, and missing her when she is gone for long periods of time. We as a family recognize these feelings and talk with her, but we are not around her during all hours of the day. During the week, most of her time is spent at school, and she now feels more supported and understood. Fairview recognizes our youngest as a child connected to the military and is giving her a much larger support system to lean upon. Thank you, Samantha Goldstein and Fairview staff, for taking care of our daughter! We are so thankful for you!"

"We want to extend an over-the-top, cannot-possibly-be-expressed-enough thank you for the incredible experience you provided our team during our visit. From the moment we arrived, your generosity, thoughtfulness, and intentionality were unmistakable. You didn’t just host us,y ou welcomed us into your learning community in a way that felt authentic, energizing, and truly inspiring. The time you took to walk us through your interdisciplinary approach was nothing short of extraordinary. Seeing your students actively engaged, making connections across content, and genuinely owning their learning brought everything to life in a way no presentation ever could. It was powerful, and it will stay with us. Equally impactful was the opportunity to meet your teachers and hear directly from them. Their passion, clarity, and commitment to students were evident in every conversation. You created space for real dialogue, answered every question with care, and never made us feel rushed—something we know required a tremendous investment of your time and energy. Please know that what you shared will have a lasting impact on our work. You gave us not just ideas, but a vision we can carry forward as we continue building meaningful learning experiences for our own students. We are deeply grateful—for your openness, your expertise, and the way you so graciously took care of us throughout the entire visit. Thank you again for setting such a high bar and for reminding us what’s possible."

Indira Mendez, Sleepy Hollow ES

"Ms. Mendez has gone above and beyond to support our families during AAP Screening. During our preparation for central office screening for full-time services, she called families and supported guardians in completing parent questionnaires to share their child's strengths. She also helped explain the central screening process to families and supported them in getting their questions answered. Indira went above and beyond her job as family liaison to guide our families through every step of the process. The strong presence of parent voice in our student portfolios for full-time central screening was due to Indira's hard work."

Jeremy Doxer, Stonecroft Transportation

"I am delighted to recognize Jeremy Doxer, Senior Manager of Transportation Services, for his exceptional support during the Stonecroft Complex road-e-o on Friday, April 10, 2026. Jeremy’s proactive leadership and genuine care for others were on full display throughout the event. While volunteers were navigating windy conditions and coordinating setup, Jeremy stepped in—without being asked—to provide a tent and laptops for our Human Resources table. This thoughtful gesture went far beyond logistics; it created a welcoming, comfortable space that allowed us to fully engage with participants, vendors, and fellow staff. His attentiveness and willingness to anticipate needs exemplify the very best of teamwork and service. Jeremy’s actions not only ensured the smooth success of the day but also elevated the overall experience for everyone involved. It’s this kind of initiative and positive energy that transforms a good event into a truly memorable one. Jeremy’s dedication did not go unnoticed, and his contributions made a lasting impact. I’m grateful for his support and already looking forward to working alongside him at next year’s road-e-o."

Patricia Ficken, Jennifer Ross & Tara James, Fort Belvoir Upper School

"I want to recognize the elite investigative work of “Special Agents” Jennifer Ross, Patricia Ficken and Tara James. A high-stakes mystery unfolded: after returning from our field trip with everyone and everything…. except my essential backpack. The bag was nowhere. All along after returning to the school, I had been wearing a phantom backpack. The team and I did not realize this of course until the three educators essentially acted as private investigators-staying long after contract hours to retrace our steps at the farm, the school and navigating the complexities of our transportation system. Thanks to the relentless detective work of this trio the essential backpack was reunited. These long hours and tenacity cannot go unrecognized. They discovered the bus driver had it! While the situation was stressful, it highlighted a profound truth: our county is home to educators who will stop at nothing to support their teammates."

Kenneth Junge, Katie Friedman & Faye Cofer, Colvin Run ES

"I am writing to express my appreciation for the exceptional leadership at my daughter’s school - Colvin Run Elementary in Vienna, especially Principal Mr. Junge, along with Assistant Principals Mrs. Friedman and Mrs. Cofer. As a parent, it is deeply reassuring to see a school environment where children are not only encouraged to achieve academic excellence but are also nurtured as confident, thoughtful, and well-rounded individuals. This balance is not easy to achieve, and it reflects a clear, intentional vision carried out with care and consistency by the entire leadership team. I also greatly value the school’s commitment to open and effective communication with parents -- whether through regular updates, timely responses, or transparent sharing of goals and progress -- which helps families like mine feel informed and involved. Additionally, the many opportunities for parents to engage in school activities and events create a strong sense of community and partnership that truly enhances the overall experience for students. Mr. Junge’s leadership, in particular, stands out as the driving force behind the school’s high-performing and positive culture. His commitment to excellence is evident in every aspect of the school, from strong academic outcomes to the emphasis on character development, equity, and personality growth. He sets a tone that inspires both staff and students to strive for their best, and that influence is clearly supported and reinforced by Mrs. Friedman and Mrs. Cofer – an amazing team who bring dedication, warmth, and responsiveness to their roles every day. Together, they have created a school community where families feel connected and students truly thrive. I am grateful for their leadership and the lasting impact they are making on my child’s elementary educational journey. Thank you!"

Debra Wotherspoon, Alan Leis Center

"I would like to recognize Debra Wotherspoon, Early Childhood Mental Health Specialist, for her exceptional support to our PreK program during a time of significant need. When our PreK teacher relocated mid-year, our classroom was left without a consistent substitute, creating uncertainty for both students and staff. As soon as Deb became aware of the situation, she immediately stepped in to provide consistent, in-person support. She has been present in the classroom to model effective practices, coach staff, support student needs, and communicate with families. Just as importantly, she helped develop a clear, actionable plan to stabilize the learning environment. Deb brings a wealth of experience and practical expertise. She does not hesitate to step in and work directly with students, especially those who are still learning how to navigate the school setting safely and successfully. Her hands-on approach has made a meaningful difference in maintaining continuity and supporting both student outcomes and staff confidence. We are deeply grateful for Deb’s immediate response and her ongoing, reliable presence. Her commitment, professionalism, and care for our students and staff truly reflect the spirit of FCPS CARES."

- Kaitlin Turzi, Eagle View ES

Jason Franks, Nancy Sprague Technology Center

" Over the past few days, we have had an issue with some issues/bugs regarding desktop background activity affecting staff laptops at Navy ES. With Jason’s help, we narrowed it down to an outdated GPO which he helped me discontinue, allowing the teachers to go back to a normal laptop screen. It wasn’t just the tech help provided; Jason knew I was stressed about it and the way he helped with such a friendly, kind and professional manner really speaks a lot about him, and Endpoint Management. He/they often don't get the kudos and cheers they deserve for the many ways they resolve things in a quick, timely manner. Thank you Jason!"

- John Kelly, Navy ES

Lesley Breddy & Angie Choi, Churchill Rd ES

"Leslie Breddy, Office Assistant, and Angie Choi, Student Information Assistant, exemplify what it means to go above and beyond in service of families and to provide a welcoming environment each and every day in the front office. They understand that attendance patterns in elementary school lay the foundation for long-term student success, and they approach this responsibility with care, consistency, and purpose. This progress reflects the strength of a committed school team, and I’d like to highlight two members of that team—Leslie Breddy and Angie Choi—who consistently go above and beyond in their work. Through the strong, trusting relationships they build with families each day, they demonstrate the power of trust as a foundation for meaningful collaboration. They create a supportive environment where parents feel comfortable problem-solving challenges that can lead to preventable absences. Their approach is friendly and compassionate, while also being highly organized and proactive—providing clear communication about the school calendar, following up quickly when concerns arise, and working diligently to address issues before they become barriers to attendance. Their conscientious and efficient efforts have played a key role in the significant decrease in chronic absenteeism at Churchill Road over the past year. Their work is a powerful testament to the impact of trust and strong partnerships between home, school, and the broader community."

Ingrid Whalen, Mount Vernon HS

"As a School Tech. Innovation Partner with FCPS Dept. of Info. Tech, I had the pleasure of working with Ingrid Whalen as she coached an incredible team for the Seize the Moment Student AI Innovation Challenge. Ingrid truly went above and beyond to support her students' energy and enthusiasm for this project. Although she was humble about her own technical and functional knowledge, her actions spoke louder than words; she demonstrated a deep professional commitment by learning new skills alongside her students to ensure they had every opportunity to succeed. Ingrid’s care and professionalism were critical in helping us coordinate and capture footage for a video where students shared what their families should know about AI. By prioritizing student voice, she helped create a resource that will impact the entire FCPS community. Ingrid's dedication to capturing the voices that matter most, our students, shows just how much she cares for the Mt. This past week she worked with me through a difficult and complex situation. Not only did she support me with accuracy of our procedures, but she took additional time out of her busy schedule to ensure I was taking care of myself during this situation. She acknowledged that this was difficult, asked how I was and coached me in my response and support that I provided for my staff and students. She is always providing right on time support but this time she really went above and beyond!"

Bryan Buser, Gatehouse Admin Center

" Bryan is such an amazing resource to every website curator in the county. As an SBTS, he is my go-to resource for any question I have about my school's website, which is such an important part of how we communicate with students, families, and our broader community. Every SBTS and TSSPEC in the county knows that you can ask Bryan any question and he will not only answer your question, but also provide additional tips and tricks to make your site even better than it was before! We come to him in our moments of panic and frustration and he gets us on track with patience, understanding, and cool as a cucumber! Whereas other troubleshooters might "wave a magic wand", fix the problem, and send us on our way, he works his magic, explains the solution, and gives helpful "hacks" for the future. He is the definition of going "above and beyond" and you can tell that he truly cares about what he does and the people who he helps do this important work for FCPS and their school sites. I've never met Bryan in person but I hope he never goes anywhere! He is truly a gem!"

Veronica Pereira & Ashlyn Lieberman, Cunningham Park ES

"Thank you both so much for the incredible environment you have built for your third graders this year. It is rare to see such a seamless example of true collaboration; the way you sync your lessons and energy makes both of your classrooms feel like they are a cohesive, supportive community. It’s clear that you aren't just sharing a grade level, but a shared vision for how children should be taught. Using patience, humor, caring, and a unified front that gives the students a wonderful sense of stability. Beyond the academics, I'm so grateful for the kindness and genuine care you show every single day. You see the students as individuals, celebrating their small wins and guiding them through challenges with such heart. Knowing that they are in the hands of a team that truly loves what they do, and who they do it with. It makes all the difference. Thank you for being such thoughtful and supportive educators, especially as a team who is focused on their Multilingual students' success. Your partnership reminds me of the story of the young girl saving starfish on a beach littered with many dying starfish: when told she couldn't possibly make a difference for all of them, she tossed another into the waves and said, "I made a difference for that one." Thank you for being the kind of "dream team" that looks at a whole beach of learners and chooses to advocate for every single one. Each of your "little starfish" is better off because you’ve helped them reach the sea of learning."

-Matthew Hupp, Cunningham Park ES

She takes the time to listen, to understand, and to ensure that each person feels acknowledged and supported. Whether someone arrives with a simple question or a more complex concern, Adriana approaches every interaction with the same level of care and attentiveness. Her positivity is truly infectious. It’s not just that she does her job well; it’s that she brings a sense of light and encouragement to those around her. People leave her desk not only with the help they needed but often feeling uplifted and valued. Adriana’s dedication to helping others, combined with her compassionate spirit, makes her an invaluable part of the Gatehouse community. "When two students recently misplaced an expensive and essential piece of dental equipment, Ms. Comfort immediately dropped what she was doing to help. Despite being incredibly busy, she pivoted to action without a moment's hesitation. What was truly remarkable was her ability to balance a swift, proactive response with a calm and reassuring demeanor that immediately lowered the students' anxiety. -Janet Babic, West Potomac HS

Dinesh Chandrasekaran, Francisco Tavarez, Anya Getter, Mitchell Spellman, Deedre Day & Derek Knizner, Gatehouse Admin Center

"I want to recognize teamwork and collaboration as they are truly meant to happen. Recently, FCPS customers experienced issues accessing Uconnect, with many receiving an application error code. Tickets began arriving from various ticketing systems and emails. HR Technology promptly notified the Business Systems elite team members, who immediately took action—even while engaged in HCM meetings and other ongoing projects. Dinesh, Francisco, Anaya, and Mitchell quickly investigated the problem, with Dinesh and Francisco leading the review and troubleshooting efforts while actively collaborating with their colleagues. They worked closely with Deedre to test different systems and shared results among the group. Despite the situation becoming increasingly complex and involving multiple departments, the team maintained a positive and cooperative spirit, avoiding any finger-pointing or blame. The issue also reached the Service Desk, where Derek Knizner enthusiastically joined in, offering his expertise and utilizing his skills to support the resolution within the system his team manages. Together, over 280 profiles were remediated without the need for an enterprise-wide escalation. Business Systems, HR Technology, and Technology Support Services (ITSD) play crucial roles in resolving the issue. These collaborations exemplify the backbone of healthy working relationships, demonstrating how successful technology departments overcome challenges through teamwork. This effort highlights a genuine commitment to customers and truly reflects the values of FCPS Cares."

- Philip Jeffers, Gatehouse Admin Center

Delia Arnez, Gatehouse Admin Center

"I want to thank you, Delia Arnez, for consistently going above and beyond. I arrive early every morning at Gatehouse to work out in our Gatehouse Gym, which has always been superb—not just because of the equipment, but because the showers and restrooms are always spotless. Every morning at 9 am, Delia greets everyone with a warm, welcoming smile, wishing us a good day as she cleans the bathrooms so they stay fresh throughout the day and into the next morning. I’ve seen Delia take on responsibilities beyond her own, often handling duties that should be shared among coworkers. Whether she’s mopping the entire gym, cleaning mirrors, or tidying up in the afternoon, even when it’s not her shift, she does it all with consistency and without complaint. For someone like me, who has a long commute, her cheerful presence and dedication brighten my day. I’ve been a member of well-known gyms like Gold’s, where, despite paying for a membership, the bathrooms rarely received much attention, and it was clear that care and concern were not priorities. But at Gatehouse Gym, it’s different. I want to express my gratitude for the pride and care you put into your work. Many of us have talked in the locker room about how wonderful it is to use a clean, welcoming space after a challenging workout. Thank you, Delia, for being a true example of how FCPS Cares. Your kindness and commitment make a real difference, and we are all grateful for you."

- Philip Jeffers, Gatehouse Admin Center

This has been our first year in FCPS and as a parent, I am grateful for the leadership, care, and dedication she brings to her classroom and the school community. She has created an environment where my child feels comfortable, encouraged, and excited to learn each day. I am continually amazed by the progress my child continues to make week after week not only in their academics but in their daily life skills and seeing their growth firsthand has been truly impressive and I think speaks volumes about Ms. Price’s dedication and impact. Her positive attitude and consistent approach make her classroom a place that both students and parents can truly trust. Whether it’s her classroom updates or the little glimpses of the day through pictures or shoutouts we know our student is happy and safe with her. It’s clear to us that she goes above and beyond, and we hope she knows it has not gone unnoticed. I feel very fortunate that my child has the opportunity to learn from Ms. Price, and I am deeply appreciative of the lasting impact she has made on our family and the FEES community."

-a Forest Edge ES parent

Walid Bennaji, Lorton Center

"I would like to recognize one of our amazing bus drivers Walid Bennaji! With all the changes in schedules due to delays and early releases he has made sure that our PAC students always have a ride home from school. We have different drivers depending on the day of the week/schedule that day which often leads to confusion on who is supposed to drive our students when there is a last-minute schedule change. Walid has consistently reached out to ensure that our students have a safe (and timely) ride home from school. Thank you, Walid!!"

- Jen Reynolds, Weyanoke ES

-Susannah Burkhart, Kings Glen ES

Kelly Turner, Glen Forest ES

"Ms. Turner greets her students with a smile every single day, ensuring they feel welcome from the moment they arrive. Her kindness goes far beyond the classroom. One day, when my son left his coat in class, she actually took off her own and gave it to him so he wouldn't be cold while heading back inside to get his. She also makes every child feel unique; on their birthdays, she brings in a slice of cake and hosts a private lunch, making them feel truly important and cared for. I’ve also experienced her dedication firsthand as a parent. When my child was hurt at the end of the school day, she responded to my call immediately, going the extra mile to support both him and me. Even during school breaks, she provides extra practice worksheets to ensure her students stay on track. Ms. Turner truly leads with her heart in everything she does."
