Nursing & Health Sciences: Lippincott Advisor & Procedures

Lippincott Advisor & Lippincott Procedures provide extensive evidence based practice procedures, patient education resources, and clinical techniques.

Both resources have an app that allows for easy use on a mobile device. You will need to create an account first to be able to use the apps.

Getting Started

While you can browse the information in either resource without an account, you will need to create an account to use the apps.

The app versions of Advisor and Procedures allow quick access to these resources since you can remain signed in on your mobile device. You can also add notes for yourself to articles in Nursing Advisor, and use checklists in Procedures. 

  1. You will only need to sign up once, your account will be for both resources.
  2. Access either Advisor or Procedures using the links above.
  3. Sign in through the GCU Library using your GCU username and password.
  4. Click Loginon the menu bar.

  5. On the login screen click Self Enroll.

  6. Fill out the form. Please use your email addressfor the email, username, and I.D. fields and enter your college, for example College of Nursing, for Department.

  7. Click Save and then agree to the terms and conditions on the popup window.

Apps for Advisor and Procedures are available for both Android and Apple:

  1. Make sure you have first registered for an account on either Advisor or Procedures. You cannot register from the apps, only from the browser version accessed through the library. 
  2. Locate and download one or both apps from the app store for your device. An example from the Apple app store is below. Advisor is called Nursing Advisor in the App Store.

  3. You can choose to download both apps or only one. Only one account is needed, it will work for both resources.
  4. Open the app.
  5. Click on institutional login. This will be the only option in Procedures. Advisor also offers Individual Users, choose Institutional Users.

  6. Login with the username and password you set up.

Using Lippincott Advisor & Lippincott Procedures

Both resources are frequently updated. 

  • Updates in the browser version are shown with a star on the home icon, as well as appearing in the side bar area:

  • Updates in the apps appear by turning the menu red, or by clicking the menu and choosing update. You will need to download updates for the apps.

Lippincott Advisor includes clinical guidelines, patient education sheets, and care plans. These options are the same in both the app and browser interfaces.

  • The home screen provides quick access to information by category.
  • Click on any category to browse topics with an alphabetical list of articles.
  • A search box is located to the upper left.
  • Search using single words or short phrases. Do not enter questions.

  • Search results will include categories to further refine your search.
    • Results from both Advisor and Procedures are included in searches.

  • Clicking on a title of an article will load the article.
  • A side bar includes related articles, including patient handouts that can be printed from the browser interface for use.

Lippincott Procedures includes clinical procedures and checklists for nursing, physical therapy, and other disciplines. These options are the same in both the browser and app interfaces.

  • To begin, choose a discipline from the home screen. You can select one as your default discipline by checking the box for 'Set as default'.

  • Click on any category to browse topics with an alphabetical list of articles.
  • A search box is located to the upper left.
  • Search using single words or short phrases. Do not enter questions.

  • Search results will include categories to further refine your search.
    • Results from both Advisor and Procedures are included in searches.

  • Clicking on a title of an article will load the article.
  • The first tab is an overview of the procedure.
  • Also available is a checklist and quick list to help with practice. The checklist is interactive in the app, and can be printed from the browser interface.

  • Every article can be emailed or printed from the article screen in the browser version

  • The app interfaces do not have an email or print option. 
  • In the app for Advisor, articles can saved by clicking the star.

  • Saved articles can then be accessed by clicking favorites in the menu.

To return to an article in the browser, web based versions of either Advisor or Procedures:

  • Go to the articles
  • Copy or bookmark the address in the browser address bar

In the Advisor App

  • Click the Star at the top of the article to save to favorites

  • Favorites can be accessed from the menu.

The articles in both Lippincott Advisor and Procedures are unique to these databases and not published elsewhere. Thus they follow the APA 7th edition rules for articles located solely in a single database. Cite items the same even if you are using the app interface to access articles.

Format:

Lippincott Advisor. (Year, Month Day). Article title.

or

Lippincott Procedures. (Year, Month Day). Article title.

Example:

Lippincott Advisor. (2020, January 3). Amnesia.

The date is located at the top of the article below the title:

Date appears after the title.
