RefWorks & EndNote: RefWorks Getting Started

This LibGuide introduces you to RefWorks and its citation management features.

What is RefWorks?

RefWorks is a user-friendly system that allows you to store, organize, and create citations in your own customized database. You can choose from multiple citation styles and easily insert your citations into your paper.

Always enter RefWorks through the GCU Library website . GCU does not have access to your RefWorks account, so if you forget your username or password, you will need to request your login information through RefWorks.

Creating an Account Using Single Sign-On (New!)

Step 1: On the RefWorks website login page , select Use login from my institutionand scroll or search to find and select Grand Canyon University.

Note:If you are logged into GCU’s network already with your GCU credentials, you will be directed to the Start using RefWorks page.If you are not logged in to GCU’s network, you will be directed to GCU’s Microsoft login page where you can then log in to GCU’s network using your GCU credentials. This will then bring you to the Start using RefWorks page.

Step 2:On the Start using RefWorks page, enter your GCU email address and select Check.

Step 3:If you do not already have an account with RefWorks using this email address, you will be permitted to continue to the next screen where you can select Sign Up.

Step 4: Follow the on-screen instructions to complete your registration.After this brief process, you will then be logged into your new account and can start using RefWorks. Check out the welcome email you received from RefWorks to learn all about its uses and features!

Note: To log in to RefWorks or RefWorks Citation Manager (RCM) in Microsoft Word moving forward,select your institution from the Use login from my institutionlist. If prompted to log in, always sign in with your GCU credentials. You are welcome to change your email address from your GCU email address to a personal email address in your RefWorks settings, but please note that you will need to initially log into RefWorks using your GCU credentials, if prompted.

Navigating in RefWorks

We recommend choosing your default citation style immediately after setting up your new RefWorks account:

  1. Click on Normal Viewnext to Displayat the top of the documents list, and choose the gear icon next to Citation View.

  1. Type in the name of the style you need.
  2. Click on it on the list and then click save.

RefWorks Webinar

The Library has a webinar on RefWorks that takes place regularly. These webinars are live, so you can see the librarian's screen and submit questions.

Choose a date and time from the list below and click to go to the registration page.
