Gemini Apps limits & upgrades for Google AI subscribers

Gemini Apps have compute-based usage limits that determine how much you can interact with Gemini tools and features. These limits factor in the complexity of your prompt, the models and features you use, and the length of your chat. Your limit refreshes every 5 hours until you reach your weekly limit.

You can upgrade to a Google AI plan for expanded access to features and models in Gemini Apps. Gemini Apps upgrades are part of select Google One paid plans for personal accounts. Learn more about availalble subscriptions .

What you need

To use Gemini Apps with a Google AI plan in most countries, you must be 13 (or the applicable age in your country ) or over.
To use Gemini Apps with a Google AI plan in the European Economic Area, Switzerland, or the United Kingdom, you must be 18 years of age or older.
Some features may not be available for users under the age of 18 or 13 (or the applicable age in your country ). In the help center, you will find additional information about age requirements.

Tip:If you travel from a country where Google AI Ultra is available to a country where it is not available, you may still find notifications in Gemini Apps about Ultra, but you won’t be able to upgrade or use Ultra until you return to a country where Ultra is supported.

Gemini Apps limits may change. Access is subject to change or may be limited based on testing, experimentation, or availability.
Gemini Apps usage limits are designed to ensure an optimal experience for everyone. This means we may at times have to cap the number of prompts and conversations you can have, or how much you can use some features, within a specific timeframe.

About Gemini 3 models

Gemini has the following available models:

Gemini Flash-Liteis an efficient workhorse model designed for speed. It's ideal for everyday tasks like summarization and brainstorming.
Gemini Flashis a more powerful model that balances speed and reasoning to solve a large variety of problems, from simple to complex.
Gemini Prois our most advanced model that excels at complex math and coding prompts with high performance and reasoning. Pro has a deeper understanding across text, files, images and videos, plus major upgrades for coding and studying. Generally, response time for Gemini 3 Pro prompts will take longer than if using other models.

Thinking level

Where available, you can adjust the thinking level for Gemini models.

Standard thinkingis the default and best for most questions. With Standard thinking, responses will be generally faster.
Extended thinkingis best for complex problem solving. With Extended thinking, the model will reason over your prompt longer before responding.
Deep think(AI Ultra only) provides maximum parallel reasoning. Deep Think queries generally can take a few minutes before seeing a response. Deep think requires the Pro model.

Tip:More advanced models and higher thinking levels consume more of your usage.

Context windows

When you upload files to Gemini Apps, it needs to "read" the content to provide useful insights or answers. The context window is like the reading capacity. It determines how much content can be understood together at one time. A larger context window allows Gemini Apps to work with longer prompts and chats.

What you can do when you reach a usage limit

If you have a Google AI subscription and reach your limit, you can continue your conversation with Flash-Lite.
If you reach your five hour or weekly usage limits you can upgrade to a Google AI subscription with higher limits or wait until your model limit is refreshed. Learn how to upgrade .

Usage limit changes

Limits may change without notice, including due to capacity constraints. When there’s a large increase in activity in Gemini Apps, we may change limits to maintain a high standard of quality.

Important:

For users without a Google AI plan, some features that require more compute resources, like Deep Research, may be unavailable during periods of high demand.
If capacity changes, limits for users without a Google AI plan may be limited before users with a plan.

How to tell if you’re close to a limit & when it refreshes

Gemini Apps will notify you when you're close to your limit based on your plan's level. When you reach your limit, Gemini Apps gives you another notification that tells you when your limit will refresh.

To view your usage limits:

Visit gemini.google.com .
At the bottom left, select SettingsUsage Limits.

Why you might want a larger context window

A larger context window allows Gemini to read and comprehend more. For example, with a 1M token context window, Gemini can understand up to 1,500 pages of text or 30,000 lines of code.

If you exceed the context window, this could lead to responses that don’t take into account all the content provided or miss connections or details throughout the content. This is most relevant for prompts that require attention to many details scattered throughout large files.
