Set & manage Google Tasks with Google Assistant

You can set, edit, and delete tasks with Google Assistant. Google Assistant gets help from AI to add tasks to Google Tasks.

Important:

  • For now, AI-supported actions are only available in English, in the United States, and to users 18 and over.
  • AI can hallucinate and make mistakes, so double check your tasks in the Google Tasks app.

Set up tasks

Set up tasks on a shared Google Assistant device

To use tasks on a shared Google Assistant device, like a speaker, Smart Display, or Pixel Tablet in Hub Mode:

  1. Turn on personal results .
  2. Set up Voice Match .

Set up tasks on a phone or tablet

To use tasks on a phone or tablet, you need a Google Account. Learn more about Google Tasks .

    Create a task with Google Assistant

    Important:The option to set tasks for a certain location is no longer available. You can still set tasks for a certain time and set routines for some locations .

    You can ask Google Assistant to set a task for you. For example, you can say:

    • "Hey Google, set a task."
    • "Hey Google, remind me to call Mom at noon tomorrow."
    Tip: You can also create Tasks from other Google apps like Calendar, Gmail, and Chat. Learn how .

    Check your tasks

    In the Google Assistant app

    You can check your tasks in the Google Assistant settings .

    1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Home app.
    2. Tap Apps Assistant Tasks.

    Tip: You can also say “Hey Google, open Tasks.”

    In the Google app

    1. Open the Google app.
    2. Tap your Profile pictureor initial Tasks.

    Edit a task

    With your voice

    You can change a task’s details like the time. For example, you can say: “Hey Google, change my task to buy milk to 5:00 PM.”

    In the Google Assistant app

    You can manage your tasks in the Google Assistant settings .

    1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Home app.
    2. Tap Apps Assistant Tasks.
    3. Tap the task you want to edit.
    4. Select your preferences.

    Tip: You can also say “Hey Google, open Tasks.”

    Close a task
    When you don’t need a task anymore, you can mark it as completed.

    With your voice

    You can close a task with your voice. For example, you can say: “Hey Google, mark my task to buy milk as completed.”

    In the Google Assistant app

    You can close your tasks in the Google Assistant settings .

    1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Home app.
    2. Tap Apps Assistant Tasks.
    3. Mark the circle next to the task you want to mark as completed.

    Tip: You can also say “Hey Google, open Tasks.”

    Delete a task

    With your voice

    You can delete a single task or all of your tasks. For example, you can say:
    • “Hey Google, delete my task to empty the dishwasher.”
    • “Hey Google, delete all of my tasks.”

    In the Google Assistant app

    You can delete tasks in the Google Assistant settings .

    1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Home app.
    2. Tap Apps Assistant Tasks.
    3. Tap the task you want to delete.
    4. Tap MoreMore Delete.

    Tip: You can also say “Hey Google, open Tasks.”

    Manage your task notifications

    Important:Settings can vary by device. For more info, contact your device manufacturer .

    In your Settings app

    1. Open your device's Settings app.
    2. Tap Notifications App Notifications.
    3. Tap your Googleapp.
    4. Turn Taskson or off.
    • Tip: If you can't find Tasks, scroll down and tap Show unused categories
