Upload a product reviews data source to Merchant Center

A product reviews data source is needed to show aggregated reviews of your products to customers shopping on Google. Eligible accounts can upload a product reviews data source to Merchant Center.

Before you begin

Sign up for the Product Ratings program using the Product Ratings Interest Form . Before signing up, make sure you have at least 50 product reviews.

Data source prerequisites

  • Use a validated product reviews XML file. Learn more about XML validation and creating your XML data source . Make sure your XML file conforms to the required format, including the use of unique product identifiers such as GTIN or Brand and MPN.
  • The file size of each data source must be under 4 GB. If your file is larger than 4 GB, split it into multiple smaller files before uploading.
  • You must update your data source regularly. Send your full reviews data source at least once a month, or more frequently if possible. This is required to remain eligible for the program.
  • For advanced users, multiple XML files can be compressed into a .zip file if needed. Each single file within the .zip file must be a fully-contained, valid XML file. To ensure reliable processing, no more than 5000 files should be compressed into one .zip file and the total file size should be under 4 GB.

Step 2In the Reviews page, click the Product reviewstab.

Step 3Click Product review data sources.

Step 4Click the name of the product reviews data source that you’d like to review.

Review the list of item issues to understand how many items in your data source are impacted, including examples and links to documentation to address the issue.

If you’re using the scheduled fetch input method, you’ll see options to edit the scheduled updates, the fetch file URL, and the username and password for the fetched file (if applicable).
Note: Whether you choose a scheduled fetch or a direct upload, you'll need to upload a data source at least once a month so that you'll remain eligible to participate. Make sure the file name you provide includes the appropriate extension (.zip for a ZIP file and .xml for a single XML file). Learn how to create a product data source .

After you've registered a new data source, it'll appear in your list of registered data sources in the "Product review data sources" page. Initially, the status may show as "inactive" - this is normal. It can take 2-4 weeks for your reviews to go live after the initial feed submission.

Note: To delete an existing review, simply exclude it from your uploaded data source. Previously submitted reviews that aren't included in new uploads will be removed.
