The Feek family is caught up in a heated dispute over the care of Rory Feek ‘s youngest daughter , Indiana, who is 10 years old.
Heidi Feek, 37, and her sister Hopie, 35, are expressing concerns that their father, Rory, has cut them off from Indiana and put her at risk.
Here’s a closer look at what’s happening.
Heidi responded to her father’s blog post, titled “Love, Dad,” in which Rory discussed the situation.
In his post, shared on August 31, Rory wrote that the claims made by his daughters had “broken his heart.”
He also insisted that Indiana is receiving the best care and love possible.
Heidi, who had been trying to reach Rory for months, wrote an open letter in response. She shared it on her Instagram.
“You’re right, Dad, the internet isn’t the place to solve this,” Heidi wrote. “But we’ve tried reaching out offline, and you haven’t responded.”
Heidi added, “We’re just relieved to finally hear something from you.”
Heidi’s letter also took a compassionate turn.
She shared, “Love is more than words; it’s action. We forgive you for your hurtful comments . You called us cowardly in your blog for not facing you, but we forgive you.”
Heidi recalled that the last time they tried to have a conversation without a mediator, Rory had allegedly told them he was “done being their father .”
Despite this, she emphasized that they forgive him.
Heidi even posted screenshots of unanswered texts sent to Rory asking about Indiana, whom she hasn’t seen since June.
Heidi’s letter delved into difficult memories from their childhood, including an incident Rory had described in his audiobook.
He admitted that, years ago, he left in the middle of the night, boarded a Greyhound bus, and considered leaving his responsibilities behind.
However, he returned, realizing he couldn’t abandon his daughters. “We’ve found peace and healing in our own lives,”Heidi wrote.
“We’ve come out stronger from what we went through as children.”
Heidi expressed heartbreak over Rory’s claim that Indiana has never been better cared for, particularly given the death of her mother, Joey , in 2016.
“My heart breaks for Joey,” Heidi wrote, questioning Rory’s statement that Indiana now “has a mother” for the first time. “How can you say that?” she asked.
She also raised concerns about Homestead Heritage, a Christian community Rory and his new wife, Rebecca, are involved in.
The community has faced past allegations , including child abuse charges against some members.
Rory acknowledged there could be “a few bad apples,” while the community stated it has always reported abuse cases.
Heidi and Hopie concluded their letter with, “Love is action. We love our little sister Indiana more than anything, and that’s why we’re taking action.”
Adding to the conversation, Heidi’s husband, Dillon Hodges, wrote his own letter to Rory.
He addressed Rory’s decision to stop Indiana from staying overnight at their home in Alabama, citing concerns that Heidi and Hopie weren’t respecting his rules.
Dillon admitted he let Indiana listen to Disney songs and even Whitney Houston , despite Rory’s wishes against it.
“We followed most of your guidelines—no screens, prayers before meals,” Dillon explained. “But I did let her listen to some music. Please don’t punish the girls for my choices.”
He went on to say he had documented conversations between Rory and his older daughters.
“I’ve been shocked and upset by how you’ve treated your children, so I felt I needed to keep a record,” Dillon wrote. “You’re not a hero, and you’re not a victim.”
At this point, it’s unclear whether Heidi and Hopie have taken any legal action against Rory.
A lawyer for Heidi did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Rory, for his part, acknowledged the tension, saying in his blog , “I know they’re angry and frustrated and want justice for the wrongs they believe have been done. But in nearly 60 years of life, I’ve learned it doesn’t work this way.”
While Rory admitted he wasn’t a perfect father when Heidi and Hopie were younger, he said he is trying his best for Indiana now.
As the Feeks navigate this family struggle, the path forward remains uncertain.
In July, Rory Feek started a new chapter in his life by marrying Rebecca. This was his first marriage since his wife Joey passed away in 2016.
Rebecca, who began as a teacher at the one-room schoolhouse on Rory’s Tennessee property, became an important figure in his and Indiana’s lives.
Rory is happy about finding love again, but his decision has caused some controversy .
His daughters, Heidi and Hopie, are worried about how this new marriage will affect their younger sister, Indiana.
Despite their concerns, Rory stands by his choice and believes Indiana is doing well with the love and care she gets from both him and Rebecca.
This new marriage represents a fresh start for Rory, even though it has stirred up strong feelings in his family.
