Travis Kelce ’s ex-girlfriend, Kayla Nicole, has opened up about the strain in her relationships with the wives and girlfriends of Kansas City Chiefs players, known as the Chiefs WAGs.
And she thinks Taylor Swift’s new romance with Kelce may be the reason.
In a recent interview and podcast appearance, Kayla didn’t hold back when sharing her side of the story.
She explained how her close friendships with some of these women have unraveled since Swift entered the scene.
Once a staple in the Chiefs WAGs circle, Nicole was close with many of the wives and girlfriends, even serving as a bridesmaid for Brittany Mahomes when she married Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
But in recent interviews, Kayla admitted that her ties to the group have weakened in the wake of Swift’s high-profile relationship with Kelce.
“We are not as cool as we once were,”Nicole said candidly.
Although she didn’t directly blame Swift, she implied that Swift’s constant presence at Arrowhead Stadium has shifted dynamics within the group.
Kayla shared that she now feels “pushed out” and distanced from the friendships she once cherished.
One of the biggest heartbreaks for Kayla has been her shifting friendship with Brittany Mahomes.
Last year, she went as far as unfollowing Brittany and other Chiefs WAGs on social media, an action that didn’t go unnoticed by fans.
But for Kayla, it wasn’t just about unfollowing—it was about self-preservation.
“Publicly, because things are happening so quickly and so publicly, I have to protect myself,” she explained, adding, “The love is still there.”
Kayla noted that the unfollow wasn’t a reflection of her feelings for Brittany, whom she still loves deeply.
However, the dynamic had clearly changed as the Mahomeses grew closer to Swift.
Beyond losing friends, Nicole has also had to face the wrath of Swift’s intensely loyal fanbase.
On WNBA star Angel Reese’s podcast last month, she shared the toll the online harassment has taken on her, calling it “ the perfect storm to make you want to disappear from the world entirely.”
The abuse from Swift’s fans has been relentless, with some people even questioning her self-worth and assuming she was the problem in her relationship with Kelce.
“Behind closed doors, the hardest part is losing a partner , a best friend, speaking every day to cutting ties,” she confessed.
“Then you throw in social media. I would be lying if I said that that level of hate and online chaos didn’t impact me, even to this day.”
The impact has been so intense that Nicole admitted it still haunts her whenever she posts something new online.
Nicole has tried to handle the fallout with as much grace as possible, sharing that she’s communicated her feelings to her former friends in the Chiefs WAGs circle.
She wants them to know she’s still supportive, even if the closeness they once had has faded.
But for Kayla, this entire experience has been a stark reminder of the challenges that come with dating someone in the public eye.
Reflecting on her experiences, she shared that there’s “something about that level of fame that attracts crazy people.”
And she emphasized that, from her perspective, she hasn’t done anything to “warrant that kind of backlash.”
Still, she’s doing her best to move forward and find peace in this new chapter, even as it means redefining relationships she once considered unbreakable.
Kayla’s story shows that fame can complicate relationships in unexpected ways, and for her, it’s been a balancing act between loving herself and letting go.
After her five-year, on-again, off-again relationship with Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce, Kayla Nicole is finding her own way.
Kayla is a well-known sports reporter with a long-standing love for broadcasting.
She graduated from Pepperdine University in 2013 with a degree in broadcast journalism and has since built a strong career.
Over the years, she’s hosted sports segments for big names like ESPN and Barstool Sports, covering both NBA and NFL events.
Her job has even led her to interview celebrities like Will Ferrell , Amy Poehler, and Sterling K. Brown.
Alongside her reporting, Kayla has also stepped into modeling, working with brands like Revolve, Crocs, and Savage X Fenty.
She is also a talented singer, with several songs to her name, including “Postmates,” “Audacity (Shemix),” “Ouuhh!!,” “Nope Shemix,” “ I Hate It Here ,” “Sneaky Link Shemix (Sped Up Mix),” “ Decisions ,” “SMA,” “Recuperate,” “BUNDLES,” “O’Riley’s,” and “Do or Die.”
Beyond her music and media career, Kayla has launched her own fitness brand, Tribe Therepe, which focuses on both physical and mental health.;
Following her split from Kelce, she has been open about the challenges of moving on.
She’s shared how difficult it was to lose a close relationship and how she’s faced harsh comments from online fans.
The split also affected her friendships—she unfollowed close friends like Brittany Mahomes, the wife of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Despite these changes, Kayla has kept a positive outlook, explaining that she still cares for her friends but needs to protect her peace.
Now, Kayla feels ready to start a new chapter in her life. She’s no longer interested in dating athletes and says she’d love to meet someone outside of the sports world.
She hopes to find a partner with similar interests, like going to basketball games together, but she’s more interested in someone who isn’t always in the spotlight.
