Pamela Anderson, the heart and soul of 90’s Hollywood has taken a step back from all the glitz and glamor of the industry. But why?
There are many reasons, spanning more than several decades. The actress experienced hardships and a tough time, finally pushing her to make the right decision.
Pamela Anderson, in the 1990s, quickly rose to fame with her influential roles and iconic appearances. The actress and model was discovered at a football game and from there she was offered a contract which led to her feature in the Playboy magazine.
But Pamela didn’t stop there, as the actress went on to be cast in the hit TV show, Baywatch, as lifeguard CJ. Parker. She garnered more success over time becoming a staple of the 1990s Hollywood.
For Pamela, her success had a price and it came in the form of constant public scrutiny. Pamela without a doubt became a symbol of allure which led to her personality being overshadowed.
Fans and the media were always looking for the next juicy detail about the actress’s life. And then there was the heavy focus on her looks, body, and personal life.
The Baywatch actress was married 5 times and each time the media and online platforms were full of judgement. Her relationships and marriages became a hot topic for public discussion and dissection which not only impacted her reputation but also her well-being.
The most extensive media attention was received by Pamela and Tommy Lee. Their relationship had the perfect highs but equally devastating lows.
Pamela Anderson was known to have a “bombshell” image which consisted of platinum blonde hair, glamorous style, and an alluring persona. These characteristics made her a defining public identity which of course came with its own baggage.
The main problem Pamela had was that people, media, fans, and the public saw nothing beyond her looks. This “broke” the actress’s heart, and keeping up the glamorous facade became tiring.
Because the actress was characterized by nothing but her looks and style, it eventually led to pent-up frustration and the feeling of being trapped. This constant emphasis on her looks was suffocating for her, as she felt like Hollywood created a persona around her that was difficult to escape.
A sense of confinement came with these circumstances. And it wasn’t long before Pamela felt like she had been boxed into a role she had outgrown for quite some time now.
Pamela Anderson had depression for a couple of decades. In an interview with Variety, the actress said, “I never thought I would be on stage, receiving an award like that, I just want to keep working.”
“I am excited to do more”. The actress opened up about her struggle with depression for decades while she was filming for Baywatch from 1989 to 2001 describing the period as a “big blur”.
Pamela Anderson, at the back of her mind, knew she had to eventually escape the loop and invest her time in something more grounded and genuine. She was grateful for the fame and all the career achievements but it was time for the actress to move forward and do something that aligns with her values.
Pamela was done with living the fast-paced Hollywood life that emphasized appearances. Pamela wanted something deeper and more authentic.
In 2020, the 57-year-old Pamela moved back to Canada, settling on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, to find peace and reconnect with herself. Besides the factor of natural beauty, Pamela chose Vancouver because of the privacy it came with.
Pamela in an interview with Women’s Wear Daily, “I guess [it was] a homecoming, you could say, to really kind of look at my life and remember who I was—not what other people were telling me I was. I didn’t want anything that had happened to me define me. I wanted what I do to define me.”
Pamela craved a sense of grounding beyond her Hollywood image. And Vancouver presented the perfect opportunity for that.
Pamela got to rediscover who she was away from all the blinking cameras and paparazzi pictures. She connected with her deeper and more authentic self focusing on her real passions without the constant media scrutiny.
Vancouver is well-known for the natural beauty and greenery it owns. The large pine trees and bushy leaves became a source of healing, self-reflection, and comfort.
Her surrounding environment was starkly different from the artificial glamor of Hollywood. Being closer to nature allowed the actress to reflect on her past and gain a much-needed perspective on past relationships and friendships.
Pamela’s move to Vancouver allowed her to be closer to her immediate family. She got the perfect opportunity to reconnect with people who surrounded her during her teenage years and even after that.
Anderson doesn’t hold back from speaking highly about her family and friends. She values the bond developed with her family and only wants it to become stronger and nothing else.
The first time Pamela went makeup-free was during the 2023 Paris Fashion Week and she commented on the experience, saying, “There’s these beautiful clothes, I’m wearing Vivienne Westwood.”
“I have this great hat and a beautiful coat and nobody’s going to notice if I don’t wear any makeup. I didn’t realize it was going to start all of this, all these people relating to me.”
As Pamela is now removed from Hollywood to a large extent, she has finally got the time to focus on other things that mean something to her. This includes writing a memoir.
The Baywatch actress wrote, “Love Pamela” a memoir that has insights about her personal life, but only the ones she wants to share with the world. Similarly, she also indulged in writing a cookbook called, “I Love You: Recipes From the Heart”.
Pamela Anderson tested new waters and entered the beauty space recently. She and her son acquired a stake in the skincare brand “Sonsie”.
The beauty brand is all about minimalism and follows the “less is more” approach religiously.
Besides Pamela Anderson, the Kardashians also seem to be taking over the skincare world. To get more information into the different ventures this family runs, check out, Kardashian-Jenner’s Top Brands and Ventures .
It seems like Pamela Anderson has finally found her safe space, her calling, and she is going to invest her time, money, and energy in it. From speaking up about causes that nobody else cares about to starting the no-makeup trend, Pamela Anderson has stated where she stands.
And this time, it seems like she’s making all the right decisions for the sake of her happiness.
