The 18-year-old daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, Shiloh Jolie-Pitt has let go of the shadow of her well-known family.
She’s boldly filed to just “Shiloh Jolie,” therefore introducing a new chapter in her life. Many have been left wondering why she decided to lose her father’s surname.
Shiloh navigates early adulthood by taking charge of her identity and making intentional life decisions.
So, let’s explore this unexpected turn of events and what it could mean for Shiloh’s future.
Filing a petition to legally change her surname to just “Shiloh Jolie,” the child of great actresses Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt has started a journey of self-discovery.
Following strict guidelines governing name changes in California , Shiloh formally announced in the Los Angeles Times, consequently starting the necessary method.
Shiloh’s dad, Brad Pitt, apparently understands and finds her choice to drop his patronymic surname.
Pitt’s friend has said that the actor is very depressed because of his growing distance from his children, especially given Shiloh’s deliberate choice to separate herself from his family the name.
Given Pitt’s major involvement in Shiloh’s life as her progenitor, this mindset makes sense.
Making a name change is a difficult task that requires publishing a notice in a widely read newspaper one month before court approval.
This vital phase of California’s name-change process guarantees that the public is ready for the upcoming transformation and provides chances for any opposition to be voiced.
Shiloh is showing a dedication to building an independent personality unique from her famous parents by making this bold move.
Since 2019, Shiloh’s parents, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, have been divorced; much discussion has been raised about the details of their custody arrangement.
Pitt still has visitation rights about his younger children, however, trustworthy sources indicate he has had very little interaction with his older kids, including Shiloh.
This distance could have helped Shiloh decide to separate herself from her father’s surname.
On her eighteenth birthday, May 27, Shiloh filed the petition for a name change, therefore marking a turning point in her life.
She is probably going to give the public and media a closer look as she starts her new stage.
Still, for one so young, she is showing an admirable understanding of power and self-awareness by seizing ownership of her own identity and making deliberate decisions about her name and her life.
Six children, Maddox, 22, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, Pax, 20, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 16 are shared by Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.
Though Brad Pitt is in a love relationship with Ines de Ramon right now, he still suffers great grief from being away from his children.
Still, he is claimed to be happy with his present mate and is living his life. Shiloh is probably going to meet opportunities and challenges in equal proportion as she negotiates her road.
Following his 18-year-old daughter Shiloh Jolie-Pitt’s court filings in June 2024 to have “Pitt” taken off her surname, Brad Pitt was left sad and depressed.
In Shiloh’s path toward self-discovery and independence, this action was a turning point.
Shiloh’s two sisters, Zahara and Vivienne, had already cut off ties to the “Pitt” surname, therefore her choice to lose her father’s last name followed after.
Zahara participated in the Mu Pi chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority at Spelman College in November 2023 under the name “Zahara Marley Jolie.”
Vivienne was again recognized as “Vivienne Jolie” on the Playbill for the musical “The Outsiders” in May 2024.
According to a close friend of Brad Pitt, the actor was “ aware and upset” by Shiloh’s choice to drop his last name.
Pitt has always loved his authority as a parent and felt a great loss at the distance between him and his kids.
Pitt was finding it difficult to process the “ reminders” that his children were separate from him, the person observed.
Pitt was depressed and lost even though he tried to keep a connection with his children.
The gap between Brad Pitt and his children only deepened as the custody fight between him and Angelina Jolie continued.
According to a source, Pitt still loved all of his children “ tremendously” although the family was finding the process “very hard.”
Apart from Jolie’s children dropping their surnames, Angelina Jolie is pushing her ex-husband Brad Pitt to give up the legal battle over their vineyard, Château Miravalto let the healing process of the family start.
Pitt’s 2022 case focused on Jolie’s selling her share in the vineyard to Stoli, a Russian tycoon, without permission.
Pitt argues that he and Jolie had meant for their six children to take over the vineyard, hence the transaction formed a hostile takeover and he wants to undo it.
Inversely, Jolie says she was not obliged to get Pitt’s permission for the transaction and denies any wrongdoing. The couple’s 2016 divorce after an aircraft tragedy caused a major family divide.
Pitt says he suggested buying Jolie out of her portion of the vineyard, but she turned him down because of a non-disclosure agreement (NDA)that would have kept her from talking about his “ personal misconduct and abuse.”
Pitt’s offer was presented by Jolie’s attorney, Paul Murphy, as an effort to “punish and control” her by requesting an expanded NDA.
Murphy said Jolie was ready to put the legal conflict behind her and go ahead, but Pitt’s inability to dismiss the case left Jolie without any option but to find proof proving his claims.
The legal team has asked for every third-party communication Pitt produces after the 2016 incident, which Pitt’s team has classified as “intrusive” and a “sensationalist fishing expedition.”
A judge ordered in May that Jolie give over eight years’ worth of NDAs relating to the vineyard issue.
Murphy said they are glad to work together, pointing out that ordinary NDAs are not like Pitt’s “ second last demand to try and cover his misconduct.”
Transparency is welcomed by Jolie’s team, which also thinks that the decision would open the path for inquiry into all aspects of Pitt’s abuse.
Pitt’s team sources said the most recent decision was a “crushing blow.” Jolie’s side had already argued, however, that giving up prior NDAs would be “expensive,” “wasteful,” “unreasonable,” and “abusive.”
According to Jolie’s attorney, she is excited about the ultimate dismissal of the lawsuit as it will help to destroy fabricated stories that still harm the family and restrict their ability to heal.
