The 8-episode series has blown everyone away with how good it is. A New Man on the Inside isn’t jam-packed with action nor does it have flashy visuals, it’s a relatively simple story blanketed in wit and humor.
And of course, we’ve also got Ted Danson as the main lead. There’s no surprise why the series is a hit and continues to remain so.
The show “A Man on the Inside” revolves around Charles Nieuwendyk, a retired professor living an uneventful life after retiring from his academic profession. However, his uneventful life is turned upside down as a private investigator, Julie enlists him to infiltrate a retirement community.
The community is full of eccentric characters and unexpected challenges, bringing color to the boring man’s life. Charles perfectly blends his intelligence and charm to execute the mission.
The series received a standout reaction from the audience because it balances humor and emotional depth. The show is full of laugh-out-loud moments and thoughtful reflections on aging, identity crises, and second chances at life.
These elements resonated deeply with viewers, earning the show success in such a short time. There aren’t many shows out there that reflect on the time after retirement and this is where the show has done things differently.
Ted Danson did what he does best. He brought his 100% to the role and it shows in the way he portrays the character of Charles Nieuwendyk with a unique blend of charm, wit, and emotional nuance.

Besides Ted Danson, we’ve got a dynamic ensemble cast that doesn’t fail to bring depth and humor to the storyline. Stephanie Beatriz, known for her role in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, brings her sharp comedic talent to the series.
Sally Struthers, a veteran actress, is also part of the cast with her sole purpose being flirting with Charles and giving the series a comedic relief. Other members include Lilah Richreek, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Stephen McKinley, and Jama Williamson.
The way A Man on the Inside touches the topic of aging is both vulnerable and humorous. Conversations between the different characters on the show remind viewers how important human connection is for all of us, especially as we grow older.
The show emphasizes how life doesn’t end because it takes on a different turn allowing the majority to relate with it and sing its praise. And a mystery thrown into the mix makes the show 10x better.
