The viral video begins with Washington jokingly comparing acting abilities.
“He’s not as good an actor as me,” Denzel quipped, his signature charm on full display. But he wasn’t done; he quickly pivoted to tease Pascal’s skyrocketing fame. “They’re going to change the name of the movie from Gladiator II to Pedro I , starring Pedro, written by Pedro, directed by Pedro, edited by Pedro.”
Pascal , known for his quick wit, laughed and shook his head. “I only take direction from this guy,” he responded, adding, “I’m glad that a trilogy is in my future. I hope you’re up for it!”
Maintaining a deadpan expression, Washington said, “I’m not going to be in it.” Moments later, he broke character to warmly embrace Pascal, lightening the mood further.
“Good man. Great actor. Good… I wouldn’t call him a friend,” he teased, prompting Pascal to feign indignation.
“What do you mean?” Pascal exclaimed with mock hurt.
Washington continued the ribbing: “Well, it’s not like we have tea, you know?” Pascal, ever the charmer, quickly replied, “I’m waiting in the wings. I’ll have tea with you anytime!”
The exchange took a heartwarming turn when Denzel’s wife of 41 years, Pauletta Washington, entered the conversation.
She greeted Pascal warmly, prompting him to joke, “I was just about to say, me and Pauletta are friends.”
Denzel, with his signature deadpan delivery, replied, “Yeah, right. Y’all are friends!”
Turning to the camera, he added, “You see how that goes? This is life. This is Pedro, and he’s been making time with my wife. If I were in Gladiator , I’d kill Pedro right now. But I won’t do that because he’s a nice guy.”
The much-anticipated sequel to Ridley Scott’s iconic Gladiator has Washington playing Macrinus, a former slave-turned-powerbroker with ambitions to become the Roman emperor.
Pascal takes on the role of Marcus Acacius, a powerful Roman general. The film , which hits U.S. theaters this Friday, brings a new generation of characters to life while honoring the legacy of the original.
Washington’s collaboration with Scott marks a reunion for the pair, who last worked together on 2007’s American Gangster .
Washington told Empire Magazine about his decision to join the project : “I have to be inspired by the filmmaker, and Ridley tremendously inspired me. We had a great go-round the first time, and here we are.”
While Denzel and Pedro’s banter stole the show, Pascal’s younger sister Lux turned heads on the red carpet .
Dressed in a stunning black Stephane Rolland gown with a daring slash down the side, Lux accessorized with a bold emerald clasp and diamond earrings. Her sleek makeup highlighted her striking features, leaving fans in awe.
Pedro, meanwhile, opted for a laid-back yet elegant look, wearing a low-cut black shirt paired with black trousers and matching shoes. Fans couldn’t help but gush over the sibling duo, flooding social media with admiration.
Denzel and Pedro’s banter isn’t just for show. The pair first worked together on The Equalizer 2 in 2018, where Pascal played Dave York, the antagonist to Washington’s Robert McCall.
Their chemistry on-screen has translated into a solid off-screen rapport. While their playful exchange at the Gladiator II premiere highlighted their dynamic, it also reminded fans of their impressive acting range.
Washington, a two-time Academy Award winner, and Pascal, a three-time Emmy nominee, continue to captivate audiences with their versatility and charisma.
Adding another layer of intrigue to the premiere, Washington recently announced plans to retire after completing four more projects.
Among these is a Broadway revival of Othello, where he’ll star opposite Jake Gyllenhaal and Spike Lee’s remake of Akira Kurosawa’s High and Low . He’s also set to headline Antoine Fuqua’s untitled biopic on Carthaginian general Hannibal and Marvel’s next Black Panther installment.
Fans of the iconic actor are savoring every moment of his career, knowing his time in the spotlight may soon come to an end.
Pascal’s career is on a meteoric rise. Known for his roles in The Mandalorian and The Last of Us , the actor has become a household name.
With the second season of The Last of Us set to premiere in early 2025, Pascal shows no signs of slowing down.
His portrayal of Joel Miller in the post-apocalyptic HBO series has garnered critical acclaim, breaking records for the network and cementing his status as one of Hollywood’s most sought-after actors.
Fans on social media couldn’t get enough of the premiere, with many praising both stars’ humor and charm.
Comments ranged from admiration for their friendship to excitement for the film’s release. Lux Pascal also became a trending topic, with fans lauding her stunning red carpet-appearance.
The playful banter between Denzel Washington and Pedro Pascal at the Gladiator II premiere was a masterclass in charisma and humor. Their interaction not only added excitement to the film’s release but also highlighted the genuine friendship between these two Hollywood icons.
