Experts say cancer is a bigger killer in developing countries than tuberculosis(結核), malaria, and AIDS combined. Though 60% of last year's 7.6 million cancer deaths took place in poorer nations, only 5% of global resources for cancer are spent in developing countries. Many patients in these areas do not have access to even the most basic cancer treatments. The international cancer working group CanTreat is calling on developed nations to work with the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries to improve access to cancer medicines and diagnostics and is urging low- and middle-income countries to improve education about the disease.
