Tinnitus(耳鳴り), a condition in which the sufferer hears ringing, buzzing, or other sounds in the absence of an external stimulus, affects as many as 40 million adults in the US. Now, researchers say they have found a way to treat the condition using music. They developed individualized treatments for patients by stripping out sound frequencies from music that matched the sufferer's tinnitus frequency. After a year of listening to these customized musical therapies, patients reported a decrease in the loudness of ringing compared with those who had listened to non-tailored placebo music.
