A giant bluefin tuna weighing 513 pounds (233 kilograms) was sold at auction for 16.3 million yen (177,000 dollars) on Tuesday. This is the highest price paid in Japan for a tuna since 2001, when a 440-pound (200-kilogram) tuna at Tokyo's Tsukiji market sold for a record 20.2 million yen (220,000 dollars). Tuna is prized in Japan, where it is eaten raw in sushi, but consumption has declined somewhat due to recent economic difficulties. Despite this, Japan remains the world's biggest consumer of seafood.
