Why is learning to read smart contracts important to an investor’s investment decision process? Every day thousands of tokens are been launched daily each with different tokenomics and use cases. Therefore before investing in any tokens, it is advantageous for every investor to learn the basics of reading a smart contract in order to understand its tokenomics, risk, and rewards in order to align his/her investment horizon and risk appetite. In this article, we will share on the basics of reading a smart contract to verify and have an informed understanding of its tokenomics. Prior to that we first need to understand what is a Smart Contract and what is the BNB Smart Chain (BSC). After that, we will follow a practical example of looking into the Smart Contract of MMSHIB (MaMa Shiba Inu).

What Is a Smart Contract?

A smart contract is a self-executing contract with the terms of the agreement between buyer and seller being directly written into lines of code. The code and the agreements contained therein exist across a distributed, decentralized blockchain network. The code controls the execution, and transactions are trackable and irreversible.
スマート契約は、直接コード行に書き込まれるという状態で、売買者双方の間の合意条件で自己実行する契約です。そのコードとそこに含まれる契約は、分散型流通ブロックチェーンネットワーク全体に渡り存在します。 そのコードは実行を制御し、取引は 追跡可能で、不可逆です。

Smart contracts permit trusted transactions and agreements to be carried out among disparate, anonymous parties without the need for a central authority, legal system, or external enforcement mechanism.

While blockchain technology has come to be thought of primarily as the foundation for Bitcoin, it has evolved far beyond underpinning the virtual currency. One of the blockchain networks that has been heavily used to deploy smart contracts is the BNB Smart Chain (BSC).

What is BNB Smart Chain?

BNB Smart Chain (BSC) is best described as a blockchain that runs in parallel to the BNB Beacon Chain. Unlike BNB Beacon Chain, BSC boasts smart contract functionality and compatibility with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). The design goal here was to leave the high throughput of BNB Beacon Chain intact while introducing smart contracts into its ecosystem.

In essence, both blockchains operate side-by-side. It’s worth noting that BSC isn’t a so-called layer two or off-chain scalability solution. It’s an independent blockchain that could run even if BNB Beacon Chain went offline. That said, both chains bear a strong resemblance from a design standpoint.

For instance, applications like PancakeSwap allow users to trustlessly exchange assets (much like Uniswap), engage in yield farming, and vote on proposals.
