Hey there! I’m Kaori, a food & travel lover exploring Japan’s best eats, culture, and art! 🍣 I love discovering new flavors!🎨 Museums, temples, and hidden gems—Japan is full of wonders!📍 Join me on this delicious and cultural adventure! 🚀✨
If you walk just one narrow street away from the main Tsukiji Market area, you’ll find a small, old-school sushi restaurant called Motodane.
It’s easy to miss—the sign is small, the entrance is simple, and the restaurant blends into the quiet back alley.
But that’s exactly why this place feels special.
My friend and I visited for lunch. We ordered the “1.5 portion sushi set,” which costs 2,700 yen. In the Tsukiji area, many sushi places charge quite high prices, so this felt incredibly reasonable.
Even though the prices have gone up in recent years, the quality here remains solid. Every piece of sushi was cut thick, fresh, and satisfying. You really feel like you ate sushi, not just tasted it.
We arrived around 1:30 pm, just before the last order at 2:00 pm, and we were seated right away. At the counter, a few regulars were already enjoying drinks and chatting with the chefs. It seems that regular customers naturally gather at the counter, while most other guests are guided to the table seats. That subtle separation added to the old-fashioned charm of the shop.
Motodane is the kind of place that doesn’t try to impress you with fancy interiors or social-media atmosphere. Instead, it offers honest, generous sushi in a nostalgic, down-to-earth setting.
If you’re exploring Tsukiji and want something authentic—and a little hidden—this is the spot.
I’ll add many photos below so you can get a feel for the place.
