Today I found a hidden place in Shimbashi — Tonkatsu Aoki, located on the first floor of the Shimbashi New Building. Official website here
I ordered the Roast Tonkatsu Curry (¥1,300).
The place has that nostalgic, old-style Japanese restaurant vibe, where you buy a meal ticket from a vending machine and hand it to the staff.
Luckily, I only had to wait about five minutes before getting a seat.
The curry came with finely shredded cabbage and a thick, juicy tonkatsu on top. The curry itself was mild — I personally wished for a bit more spice! The pork cutlet was thick and tender; it might actually go best with just salt, though of course the traditional sauce and mustard work well too.
In the evening, I stopped by Sagatani, a soba shop near Shimbashi Station.
I had the Zaru Soba and Oyako-don set for ¥880.
The soba is made from 100% buckwheat, slightly firm, just how I like it.
The location near the station makes it an easy and satisfying dinner spot.
