Today was such a nice warm day. The sun was shining, blue sky, and about 4 degrees. I can't remember when was the last time it was like that in Edmonton in January. So me and Nadu went for a walk. We ended up at Blockbuster and saw Shrek 2 for sale for $17. We had some gift cards left from Christmas and used them to pay for it. I've been working a bit on my kanji today as well. Just learning numbers, but the way the book has the lessons I also have to learn some hiragana and the way sentances are put together. So I learned how to say a simple sentance like ラーマンは500円です。Cool, eh?

Today we went to Chapters, which is a giant book store here. Sometimes we just go there to look around when we're bored, and today was one of those days. But today we finally found something good there, one that I can learn from. It is for me to learn Kanji, which I can read maybe 4 characters of right now (月,一,二,三). How sad is that? I can read katakana pretty well, but no hiragana either. So when we were in Okinawa and I tried to read the newspaper, all I could read were the words in katakana, which were not very many. So my goal next time we go to Japan is for me to be able to read some of the newspaper, and the menu at a restaurant. We also went to Walmart (just like every week it seems) and I finally got a BBQ cover. Since we put the new BBQ outside this week I have been a bit paranoid that it would snow and the pipes would start leaking when the snow melted and rusted the metal. Luckily it didn't snow this week (!) so I got a cover today. At the food store we grabbed a bunch of salmon (raised on the farm, the ocean is too far away for fresh fish to come here). I am going to try to cook it on the BBQ tonight, don't know how that will turn out. But I know Nadu doesn't care how it turns out, fish is fish, dammit!*** Update 10:22 AM ***The fish turned out great. Cooked 2 filets on aluminum foil with garlic, onions and lemon juice, and 2 filets right on the grill with just salt and pepper. Both were awesome. So juicy and tasty, kicks the crap out of cooking fish in the oven.

This week at work I have taken on yet another big task. We're a pretty small company with only 10 employees, so many of us to multiple jobs. But I think I must be up there with the most amount of different jobs. Before this week I took care of:1. Customer Support2. Inventory3. Computer repair4. Sometimes helping out in the field outsideNow this week I am also taking over scheduling. I have to talk to every customer or potential customer and see when I can get our guys out to their house to do their work. So far its been pretty good and simple, since we only have one group of guys for me to schedule. I suppose it will get more difficult on those days where a tower falls down and I have to shuffle everyone around. Maybe since I'm doing this new work I'll get a raise. That would be nice :p

Wow, today is the warmest day I have seen in a long time - its actually above 0 degrees. Right now its about 2 degrees C. Maybe the snow will melt a littel bit, that would be nice. But there are a few problems with that. Poor Nadu, when the snow melts like this, nighttime is still cold and the melted snow turns to ice. Thats pretty hard to walk on for her. Here is picture of what it looks like outside our apartment right now: Its so nice outside you must be thinking that we'd go out and do something in the snow, but I doubt it...There are too many sports on today. Right now I'm watching basketball (Go Toronto!) and later its NFL playoffs. I love watching American football, I like Canadian better but American is pretty good too. And since there is no hockey this year, its all I really have to watch. Maybe I can do something outside today, like getting out on my balcony and setting up the BBQ.

Today me and Nadu did some more shopping (damn, is that all we do on weekends?). We drove all the way over to the east side of the city to look for a BBQ cover and since we were over there, we decided to waste some time at our favorite pawn shop. Nadu made a little joke saying that its ok as long as I dont spend over $50 there, since I always buy something there. Well, we take a look a the dvds and there was something beautiful - X Files Season 9 dvd box set. I couldn't believe it was at a pawn shop. At normal stores brand new, these sets sell for around $110, but at the pawn shop it was $45! How sweet is that? So of course I get it...and I guess it was alright, since I spent less than $50 :pNow I can't wait to go to work on Monday. My co-worker there loves X Files as much as I do, maybe more. He has seasons 1, 2, and 3. The only thing is, he always buys them at full price. Me, I have seasons 1, 4, and 9 (as in the picture), but I didn't exactly pay like he did. Nadu bought me season 4, season 9 was bought today for $45, and I got season 1 at Future Shop on sale for $50. Hmmm...lets see...we have the same number of seasons, he paid about $330, I paid around $95. Now on Monday I'm gonna break the news to him that I found another season for half price, and he's gonna hate me. Sweet. Also, when we were at Walmart looking around, we found these little toys called 'Mighty Beanz'. We were like 'What the hell are these things?' But there were ones that were made to look like Simpsons characters, and they were only $1 for 5 of them. So we bought 4 packs of them. They're pretty cool, they have some sort of weights in them that allow them to stand on their own despite their shape, and they move around really weird. Pretty cool, might have to go back and grab some more.

Sweet, the weather has been warming up around here the last few days. Today it was only -8 degrees Celcius. Yes, -8 is warm weather around here, Im not just some crazy person who escaped from a mental institution and took over this webpage. Last week temperatures were right around -30 degrees with a windchill of -40. One day it was -46 with the windchill. Holy shit, that was cold, even for a hardened Canadian like myself. Here is a small example of how cold that was:Pretty much every day throughout the winter, I have to scrape the snow and ice off the windows of my car in the morning that has accumulated over the night. This is normal and has to be done about 6 months of the year. Usually it is pretty easy to scrape off since it is only one night's worth. But the day when it was -46, it did not snow at all that night. There wasn't even any frost. But what was there, were little ice particles frozen onto the glass. It looks like what happened was that it was so cold that the water in the air just froze onto the windows. That frozen water was so tiny that there was no way I could scrape it off the window - I had to warm the car up for about half an hour and wait for the ice to melt off the windows. But other than that, -46 wasn't that bad :p

Sweet - yesterday me and Nadu were shopping around town, and decided to go to my fave computer store. Big mistake. I cant walk into a computer store and not walk out with something. Its like putting an alcoholic in the Duff Brewery. So anyway, I was torn between getting a new DVD burner and a sweet Antec case. Got the burner for the simple fact that it was $40 less than the case. I dont feel too bad about spending money that I really shouldnt - I mean, a DVD burner for $90? Jeez, when I bought my 'super amazing at the time' CD burner in 2000, it cost me $300. Now I could get a CD burner that is 8 times faster for less than 1/3 the price. So I shoved the DVD burner in my computer last night and attempted to burn a DVD for Nadu, but it wouldn't burn all the way through. Either I got a bad vob file or its shitty software that I got with the burner. I got fed up and watched some football instead of trying to figure it out.On another not, now that I finally grabbed all the pictures of our trip to Okinawa from Nadu I'm going to put a little something together about our trip. Hopefully if I have some time I can get it done soon.

We came back from Okinawa on Friday. Why haven't I written about this sooner then? 2 words: JET LAG! I didnt think that travelling for about 23 hours would be so bad, but it was worse than the trip there which was about 25 hours. At least on the way back me and Nadu flew together, so I had some company this time and it was less boring. Only one minor problem along the way, our flight from Vancouver to Edmonton almost got cancelled due to a snow storm. I didnt know Vancouver even got snow ever! The thing that was kind of annoying was that it was not even snowing that badly (this coming from someone who has lived all this life on the praries, where it snows for 8 months of the year). I mean, when I left Edmonton to go to Vancouver for the first time it was snowing worse than that, and was 20 degrees colder and our flight wasnt delayed at all. Ah well, I guess I'm complaining too much, at least we got home in one piece.Tomorrow I'll be going back to work for the first time in about 3 weeks. Feels kind of weird, this vacation seems like it just flew by. I dont wanna go back to work!

It is 2 AM here, January 1 2005. It was pretty cool, a boat on the coast set its horn to blow for like a whole minute at midnight. I am the only one still drinking here, Narumi and her parents are long finished. I suppose that shows who the real drinkers are in this world - Canadians!!!!!
