Most people get allergies, flu, cough, cold and breathing problems during Autumn season. According to Ayurveda, this is the time when immunity of the body is weak as the body is in the transitional phase going from one season to another. Also there are some specific allergens which are active in this particular season, so those who have weak immunity are susceptible to allergy. Many patients come to me during this season complaining that only during October and November, they have difficulty in breathing and get symptoms like excessive sneezing, runny or blocked nose, cold, cough, sore throat, hoarse voice, congestion of lungs and difficulty in breathing. Below is a simple recipe you can make and stay healthy during this autumn.
Take one tablespoonful or 10 grams each of powdered ginger (saunth), black pepper (kali mirch), cinnamon (daalchini), cloves (laung) and cardamom (elaichi). Mix all the powders nicely and add five tablespoonful or 50 grams of raw or brown sugar powder. Mix all the ingredients together and store in a clean container. From this mixture take one teaspoonful twice a day with warm water or honey. Children between 6 to 12 should take half teaspoonful. Children between 3 to 6 can take one quarter teaspoonful. Should not be given to children below age 3 years.
Along with the above recipe, it is very good to drink ginger coriander tea with honey two or three times a day. Add one teaspoonful of fresh chopped ginger and one teaspoonful of crushed coriander seeds to on glass of water and boil nicely for a few minutes. Filter, add a teaspoonful of honey and drink warm. Gives instant relief in the symptoms and also boosts up the energy.
In the diet eat light and easily digestible food. Food should be cooked, warm and nourishing. Do not eat fried, cold, sweets, milk products, meat and white flour products. Practice JIVANANDA daily. Drink warm water or herbal teas during the day.
