治すことだけを考えずにケアを考える　Think about care not only to cure.

私は何人かの重症患者を抱えており、特に96歳の女性患者さんには参っている。先月
腸閉塞疑いで開業医から紹介されてきた患者さんである。精査の結果左大腿骨頚部骨
折があり、重い心不全、肺不全、解離性大動脈瘤、　認知症があった。整形外科医は
大腿骨頚部骨折の手術を試みたが全身状態が悪すぎるので諦めた。彼女は殆ど食べな
いし、低栄養と貧血はどんどん進行している。よくなってくれるようにと懸命に治療を
試みているが、日に日に悪くなっているのでその患者さんのことを考えると胸が苦し
くなる。難しい患者さんを治そうとして重度のストレスに押しつぶされてうつ病にな
り、休みを取った若い数人の医師を知っている。最近私はそのころの若い医師と同じ
ような状況にあった。しかし今朝、治すだけでなく、患者さんを真に助けることがで
きる人間にしてくださいと祈った。96歳と高齢で沢山の合併症があるこの患者さんが
よくなるのは不可能かもしれない。そのように祈ってから、私の心は軽くなり、道路
わきの風景が輝いて見えた。今朝患者さんの所に行ったが、胸は苦しくならなかっ
た。治すことだけを考えるのではなく、その患者さんにどうしてやったら一番幸せか
を考えることが大切だと思う。

I have charged with several very hard patients, especially 96 years female
patient is severe. She came to our hospital introduced by a practitioner
last month, suspected ileus. Her cervix of left femur was fractured and she
had heavy heart failure ,lung failure, divided aneurisms and dementia. An
orthopedist tried to operation for the fracture of left femur, but he gave
up because the general condition was too bad.
She can eat slightly, and the lower nutrition and anemia is increasing.
My heart become painful when I thought about the patient because the
patient became worse day by day although the straining for remission.
I know several young doctors who became depression and took a lest because
they were beaten by the heavy stress by the hard patient. I was also same
condition as those day's young doctors recently.
But I prayed this morning, please change me a person to help a patient
sincerely not only to cure. It may be impossible to cure the patient as old 96, and
having many complications. My mind relaxed after the praying, and the sight
views of side of road became bright. When I visited the patient this
morning , I didn`t feel painful. I think it is important to think to care
sincerely not only to cure.
