シーズン９ 第３話 「ジョーイの怪しいダブル・デート」 The One With The Pediatrician
早くフレンズを攻略したいけど、まだフレンズのDVDが届いていません。仕方なく？FOXで放送されているものを録画して単語チェックをしてみました。今、FOXで放送されているのはシーズン９です。シーズン６からかなり飛びました（笑）。
今日は前半（CMブレイク）までをやりました。ストーリーはまあ、普通なのですが、簡単な単語を使って、いろいろな意味を表す表現が多くて、とても勉強になりました。特に、ジョーイがカフェで見つけたマイクの台詞はメモがいっぱいになりました。
Ross: You can't go, I mean you're the glue that holds this group together!
字幕：行くなよ。お前は僕らのまとめ役だ
glue：[uncountable and countable]
a sticky substance used for joining things together
のりをまとめ役に見立ててる
Chandler: Hey, you said that without gagging!
to be unable to swallow and feel as if you are about to bring up food from your stomach
Rachel: Yes, of course there is! Okay? I'm not insane!
字幕：当然よ 私は非常識じゃない
insane：informal
completely stupid or crazy, often in a way that is dangerous:
That's an insane risk.
Rachel: We have to find a pediatrician.
pediatrician：[countable]
a doctor who deals with children and their illnesses
Rachel: Is it Rubella?

子供の病気の名前。日本で言う風疹
この後、レイチェルの台詞を受けてロスは・・・

Monica: Her on the other hand, botched Botox.
botch：also botch up [transitive] informal
to do something badly, because you have been careless or because you do not have the skill to do it properly
Botox：trademark しわ取り注射｛ちゅうしゃ｝による若返り術
a substance that makes muscles relax, which can be injected into the skin around someone's eyes to make the lines disappear and the skin look younger and more attractive:

Mike: Although I did just get out of a nine-year relationship, so I guess I should be open and taking some risks.

離婚という意味で使われている get out of a nine-year relationship という表現がおもしろい。
ググって用例を調べてみました。

mesquite：

Monica: 'Slim Pickings'...That is so cheesy.
字幕：憎たらしい名前ね
Chandler: 'So Cheesy' also has an opening.
字幕：”肉たっぷり”って店もある
cheesy：
1.tasting like cheese or containing cheese
2.informal cheap and not of good quality
3.informal not sincere
pickings：[plural] informal
money or profits that you can get easily from a situation
slim pickings：わずかの収入
という意味なので、モニカのThat is so cheesy.のcheesyは「cheap」という意味で使われている。で、次のチャンドラーのSo Cheesyはチーズいっぱいと言う意味で使われてるんだと思う。
ここの台詞は日本語は日本語にひっかけて翻訳していて、英語の意味をそのまま使っていないシーンですね。「憎たらしい」 の「にく」を「肉」にかけてる。でも、そもそも「憎たらしい」っていう意味はないのに。
Chandler: It's going to be tough to keep Kosher in Tulsa.
字幕：反ユダヤ教徒の町だな
kosher food is prepared according to Jewish law
Monica: yeah, my husband has been relocated.
字幕：主人が転勤なの
relocate：[intransitive and transitive]
if a person or business relocates, or if they are relocated, they move to a different place
Monica: Oh, wow, this is really flattering.
字幕：そんなのすごい名誉だわ
flattering： お世辞の、喜ばせる
clothes, pictures etc that are flattering make someone look as attractive as they can or make something as good as possible, even if it is not really very good:
That colour is very flattering.
Dr. Gettleman: I think you just have a cold, it's definitely not Strep.
字幕：ただの風邪だ 心配ない
strep throat：[uncountable] American English
an illness in which your throat is very painful
strep：連鎖球菌（の） streptococcus
