さあ、フレンズ完全攻略のほんとの第1歩。シーズン１の第1話。実は以前、レンタルでこの巻を借りたことがあるので、そういう意味ではあまり新鮮さはないのですが。
覚えていた単語は gravey boat。まったく、こういうあまり役に立たない単語って記憶に残るんだから・・・。

Chandler: So does he have a hump? A hump and a hairpiece?
字幕：そいつ 変態だろ？
hump：[countable]
a large round shape that rises above the surface of something:

a piece of false hair that you wear on your head to make your own hair look thicker
Phoebe: Just, 'cause, I don't want her to go through what I went through with Carl
字幕：前の彼がそうだったの
go through something:difficult/unpleasant situation
to experience a difficult or unpleasant situation, feeling etc
I don't want her to go through what:彼女にそれをさせたくない
go through with something：phrasal verb

move の次が目的語なので、普通に他動詞で、outが副詞的で外に持ち出す。句動詞のmove outとはちょっと違うのかな。

to leave the house where you are living now in order to go and live somewhere else
この句動詞のmove outはシーズン６の最初で最多頻出？！

Monica: Oh really, so that hysterical phone call I got from a woman at sobbing 3:00 A.M., "I'll never have grandchildren, I'll never have grandchildren." was what? A wrong number?
Ross: Sorry.
モニカのお母さんってロスのことばかり愛しちゃってるんですよねえ。モニカが普通に（？ ←まあ、変ってるけど（笑））育ったのがウソみたい。
Joey: Can I tell you what the answer is?
字幕：特効薬は？
「お前に答えが何か教えてやろうか？」
Joey: Have some hormones!
字幕：遊べよ
この hormones が「ホモ」にしか聞こえない私。だって、レズっていうから、ホモなのかなあって。スクリプト見て、びっくり。

ホルモンが可算名詞とは・・・これもびっくり。
Monica: (pointing at Rachel) De-caff.
字幕：カフェイン抜きで
decaf：informal decaffeinated coffee
そんなコーヒーが存在するのか？！ちょっとびっくり。
Monica: Okay, everybody, this is Rachel, another Lincoln High survivor.
字幕：彼女はレイチェル 高校の同級生なの
survivorという表現が珍しい。anotherってことは他にもリンカーン高校の同級生があとから出てくるのかなあ。
Rachel：I realized that I was more turned on by this gravy boat than by Barry!
字幕：結婚の目的は豪華な暮らしだって
turn somebody on：to make someone feel sexually excited
「私はバニーに、じゃなくて、豪華なお皿に夢中にさせられてたって気づいたの」
And then I got really freaked out, and that's when it hit me: how much Barry looks like Mr. Potato Head.
字幕：パニクったわ 途端に彼がイモに見えたの

to become very anxious, upset or afraid, or make someone very anxious, upset or afraid
hit：realize [transitive]
if a fact hits you, you suddenly realize its importance and feel surprised or shocked
「それからパニックになって、そして、突然気付いたの。バニーはなんてミスター・ポテトヘッドに似てるんだろうって」
トイ・ストーリーに出てくる Mr. Potato Head はトイ・ストーリーに関係のないところでも売られてるのかな・・・。
Rachel：You're a shoe!
字幕：”お嬢様”だって
これはかなりなぞ。なぜ、shoeなのか。で、吹き替えを聞いてみました。
吹替：『お靴をはいて』って言われたら、何も言わずにはいてきたわ
ああ、なるほど！お嬢様が靴を履くとき、召使の人が靴をお嬢様に出しだすときにきっと"You're a shoe."って差し出すんですね。それで、レイチェルはそれを「お嬢様」のたとえとして使ってるわけですねー。あー、結構すっきり。恐るべし吹替えの台詞。かなりお役立ちかも。
こういうとき、やはりDVDを買ってよかったと幸せを感じちゃうかも（笑）。
Ross: You can see where he'd have trouble.
字幕：物分かり悪いね
最初にこれを聞いたり、字幕を見たとき、誰が一体物分かりが悪いのかイマイチわかりませんでした。そこで、吹替え！
吹替：物分かりの悪いパパだね
ああ、パパの方が・・・ねえ。この台詞でこれを意味するなんて。
直訳すると、「パパのどこに問題があるか君はわかってるのにね」という感じかな。でも、パパはわかってないんだね、ってところ？
Monica: Well, I guess we've established who's staying here with Monica...
字幕：私と暮らすらしいわね

「あー、私が思うに、ここで誰がモニカと暮らすかわかったみたいよ」
モニカはルームメイトを探しているっていう設定なのかな。で、前々からルームメイトが問題になっていて、レイチェルの台詞を受けて、その設定を暗示しているような台詞になってるとか？
