Have you ever eaten Hachinoko or larvae of a bee? I found an article about Hachinoko on a blog and it reminded me of my experience about it. I have a relative who lives in Ina region, Nagano. He once visit our home and bought Hachinoko boiled in soy sauce. He recommended that we eat it with hot rice. A hachinoko, of course, looked a larva. I had to gather the nerve to eat it. "People in his home town eat this, so I can eat this, too," I thought and I ate some Hachinoko at last. It had light crunchy texture with soy sauce flavor.I understand Hachinoko or other insects are significant sources of protein for the region. However, I won't eat it again unless I have anything else to eat. Sorry.
