Source of embarrassment
Recently, when I went for late lunch at my favorite coffee shop, a man next to my table began to smoke and I was disappointed.Because I used to believe that this coffee shop was non-smoking place.Had I been just lucky until then?There was no indication that this place sets smoking time and nonsmoking time.I still find restaurants and eating houses difficult to find whether they are smoking places or nonsmoking places.Even some places appealing separation of smoking areas, there is no partition between smoking seats and nonsmoking seats and no different than smoking places virtually.Of course, smoking rules are up to each place, but they should indicate clearly.It's a shame as a developed nation that our country is called smoker's heaven, but this is reality.Now more and more people from abroad visit our country.I have suspected that some people from countries with strict smoking rules might be looking forward to enjoy smoking with ease.Even so, NOT like decades years ago, now no one says that you can smoke in your own sweet way everywhere.I'd like to take this occasion to ask smokers from abroad to understand the reality:Gradually more and more public spaces are smoke-free,And there are places where you are fined if you are smoking.If you don't understand this and get fined, it's what you brought upon yourself, confusing "smoke-free" and "smoke freely".Besides, nonsmoking rule is going to be tighten toward upcoming Olympic game.-Anyway... At the same time, there is an advantage of smokers:No matter how I emphasize that smoking is harmful and annoying and dangerous,To smokers with no intention to stop, it could sound like a fussy scolding.On the other hand, ex-smokers who stopped smoking can have points of view as both smokers and non-smokers. It seems that many of them realize how they wasted time and money, and how they troubled other people with smell and smoke itself, and how smokers are disadvantaged now.Then if they advocate how smoking is suicidal with no good and only harm, it's more persuasive.Just when I decided the draft of manuscript, there was a fuming case at a subway station,And the origin turned out to be a cigarette butt.Throwing away cigarette butts is no better than arson.◇：Ready to place translation if asked

Is a decade short or long?
Please excuse me for minor mistakes in grammar and expression.Today, first of all, I'd like to take this occasion to place a congratulatory address on 10-year anniversary of New Horizons spacecraft.Last year-end, when I browsed a few kinds of last year's top-10 news, I felt that bright news was only science news including Pluto exploration.At first, I thought that New Horizons would take over observation in deep space and interstellar space, especially the part impossible for Voyagers built in 1970s -but I might have been wrong.Now, an artless question:I've read that after New Horizons spacecraft completes the whole mission, digital message for extraterrestrial lives will be uploaded.I wonder how the message is played back if extraterrestrials discover it. cf. http://natgeo.nikkeibp.co.jp/atcl/news/15/071500184/Superfluously:"New Horizon" is one of the titles of English textbooks in our country.I've heard that some people are recalled of bitter memories of English classes at school from the name of this spacecraft.As I confessed, when I was a junior high school student, I had interest in space exploration and Voyager programs -until I backed down after I flunked in mathematics in high school.As a result, Voyagers flew away not only from the Solar system but also from my memory -until news came to me that Voyager 1 reached the edge of the Solar System in summer 2012.Last spring, I felt like searching about the current space exploration again, and I found that New Horizons spacecraft was heading to Pluto.I realized how long I had been unaware about space exploration, but it's lucky that I didn't miss the historical moment.Now, thanks to Internet, I can read various things.Besides, I've come to be able to read website of NASA and ESA.Even about Voyager programs I used to read the most eagerly, I read various new things I hadn't known before.From such fact, as well as passage of time and changes of the times, I'm also amazed at long operating life of twin Voyager spacecraft.When I was a teenager, parents and teachers and adults around me wouldn't let me use Internet or few people including me might have known how to use computers and Internet even if this website existed.Even if I was allowed to read whenever I wanted, I'm not sure whether I could read such things back then, although the grade of English at school was good.Just before I began to translate this manuscript, I saw the website of JPL to find that distant counter of Voyager 1 from the Sun had exceeded 20 billion kilometers while I was unaware -Keep going, deserving the name!Talking about anniversary, last year, I found that this year is 50th anniversary of Star Trek.To tell the truth, when I was a college student, I was a fan of Star Trek -as for this, I think I might not come back again.As I confessed, back then, I was lodging without TV, so I enjoyed Star Trek on novelized books; somehow a local library had many books.I remember reading various books of The Original Series and "The Next Generation", But I've never read or watched "Deep Space Nine". I watched only a few times when "Voyager" series was broadcasted on TV. 二十年ふた昔…
今からちょうど20年前の1996年１月12日、SING LIKE TALKINGと運命的（？）に"再会"。十年ひと昔とは言いますが…我ながら長いです。元々、長寿クイズ番組のエンディングテーマで「La La La」を聞いた時が最初でしたが、小さいテロップで「シング・ライク・トーキング」とあったのを見て、これを曲名だと思い込んだようです。一時は流行に積極的に背を向けて、音楽番組やドラマもほとんど見ていませんでしたが、これじゃいかんと週に１つ音楽番組を決めて見始めたのが1995年（その年にV6がデビュー …というのが"隠れV6ファン"の理由の１つ。後に佐藤竹善さんが2016年1月現在ジャニーズでは唯一となる「In The Wind」を提供、がもう1つの理由だが、この時点では知る由もない）蛇足ながら、確かその頃、好きなアーティストは？と聞かれたら一応"シャ乱QとSMAP"と答えていました。そして1996年１月12日、その番組にSLTが登場（曲は「Spirit of Love」）。今度は曲名を「シング・ライク・トーキング」と勘違いした、運命の出逢い（？）の曲が何か分からず、アルバムを直感で選んでレンタルして探し、（楽曲のリリースとタイアップのタイミングなど、当時は判らなかったのかも。しばらく後に、楽器店でSLTのピアノ弾き語り曲集を見つけ、それに載っていて分かった）さらに竹善さんのラジオ番組があると知って聞き始めて、一気にファンに。ただし…初めてSLTのライブに行ったのは、その翌年の1997年9月、「Welcome to Another World」リリース後のツアー。また、SALT&SUGARのことは、「Concerts」リリースのあたりか、竹善さんのラジオで聞いていたものの、SALTさんのことを知るのは初ライブまで待つことに。―と、いうことは…今年はSALT&SUGAR結成20周年。こちらも―おめでとうございます。SLT／竹善さんのファンでよかった ―もしくは"音楽の扉を開いてくれたのが、私にとってはSLTでよかった"と思うことは、大きく分けて・ライブやイベントでの共演、竹善さんのラジオを通して、色々な音楽や人々を知るきっかけに・今は昔とはいえ、国内の音楽に対する見方が変わった・SLTと"再会"した翌日から、それまでは無理だと思い込んでいた作曲をし始め、音楽に対して能動的になると共に、SLTは私にとっては、音楽面で色々な体験がある中でも"帰る場所"といえる存在に…他とはいえ…素晴らしい音楽を届けてくださるSLT・竹善さんには本当に感謝していますが、私が自分の耳で探すことに関してはまだまだ、それが「お気に入り・お勧め紹介」のカテゴリのブログが少ない原因でもありそうです。―これは今後の課題として、この場をお借りして…30周年・そしてその先も、SLTの皆様・ミュージシャンやスタッフの皆様・そしてファンの皆様のご多幸をお祈りいたします。さあ、16万アクセス目のキリ番を踏むのは誰でしょう！？

Smile Again / Kaori Futenma
