Confucius once said, "If one wants to run, one must learn to walk. If one wants to teach, one must learn. To define the future, one must study the past." This quote is simple yet profound. It reminds us that the past is essential for understanding the present and shaping the future.
孔子はかつてこう言いました。「走りたければ、歩き方を学ばなければならない。教えたければ、学ばなければならない。未来を定義するには、過去を学ばなければならない。」この言葉はシンプルですが、深い意味があります。過去は現在を理解し、未来を形作るために不可欠であることを思い出させてくれます。
Without a knowledge of history, we are like a ship without a rudder, drifting aimlessly in the sea. We cannot understand the forces that shape our world or our challenges. We cannot learn from our mistakes or build on past successes.
歴史を知らないと、私たちは舵のない船のように海をあてもなく漂っています。私たちは世界を創る力や変えるを理解することができません。私たちは間違いから学ぶことも、過去の成功を基盤にすることもできません。
The past is not just a collection of facts and dates. It is a story, a narrative that tells us who we are and where we come from. It records our triumphs, failures, hopes, and dreams. It is a source of wisdom and guidance, a tool we can use to make better decisions in the future.

Of course, history is only sometimes pleasant. It is full of conflict, violence, and suffering. But it is also full of hope, progress, and innovation. By studying the past, we can learn from our mistakes and avoid repeating them. We can also identify the forces that drive change and use this knowledge to shape a better future.
もちろん、歴史は楽しいことばかりではありません。争い、暴力、苦しみに満ちています。しかし、希望、進歩、革新に満ちています。過去を研究することで、私たちは間違いから学び、同じ過ちを繰り返さないようにすることができます。また、変化を促す力を特定し、その知識を使ってより良い未来を形作ることもできます。
