🌟【Wishing Upon the Stars on Tanabata Night】 Dear readers, thank you as always for following the MaryGraceSpa blog. We are truly grateful to be able to share another post with you today. Each day, we begin with a sense of gratitude—for time, for the environment, and for the meaningful connections we share with you. Today is Tanabata, also known as the Star Festival. How are you spending this special day? Did you write your wishes on a tanzaku (a small strip of colorful paper)? (#^.^#)
✨ The Romantic Legend Behind Tanabata Known in English as the Star Festival, Tanabata is a beautiful celebration of summer in Japan. It commemorates the one night a year when the star-crossed lovers, Orihime and Hikoboshi, are allowed to meet across the Milky Way. Orihime, the daughter of the Heavenly Emperor, was a skilled weaver who lived on the east side of the Milky Way. Hikoboshi, a hardworking cowherd, lived on the west side. They fell in love and married, but became so absorbed in each other that they neglected their duties. As punishment, they were separated by the Milky Way. However, moved by his daughter’s sorrow, the Heavenly Emperor permitted them to meet just once a year—on July 7. It’s said that a flock of magpies forms a bridge across the Milky Way so they can reunite on this night.
🎋 How Tanabata Is Celebrated Today During Tanabata, people write their wishes on colorful tanzaku papers and hang them on bamboo branches. This custom symbolizes the hope that, like Orihime's weaving skills, our wishes too can be fulfilled through dedication and prayer. Bamboo decorations can be seen in homes and public spaces, and after the festival, they are either floated down rivers or burned to send the wishes to the heavens. Tanabata is not only a celebration of love and diligence but also a chance to reflect on our goals and reconnect with our loved ones. Here at MaryGraceSpa, our staff have already written our wishes for the year! ( *´艸`) We hope your wishes reach the stars tonight. 🌌
