Also here in Japan, children usually take some lessons after school. In fact, some mothers are eager to make their kids learn something. I think swimming, ballet and playing the piano are the top 3, and learning English has become very popular these days. And mothers are usually very busy in taking their kids to and from the lessons.
I was no exception, I think. My two kids have begun taking swimming lessons since they were 4 years old. That's because I heard swimming was the most effective for children to make their health in good condition. (Now my daughter has a ten-year swimming career and she can swim so well! I'm proud of her not to quit swimming lessons for such a long time.)
