Yesterday afternoon, we went to see the "Standing Buddha in Ushiku". This was a place where all our local friends were telling us to visit from before.
It was huge! We have seen it from the distance, when we get on the highway to head for Iwaki. But it was really huge! This buddha is the world's tallest standing buddha in the world and is registered to the Guiness World book of Record for its height. You can go up to the chest of the buddha by elevator, too.
views in the distance. In the back of the standing buddha, there was a "Little Zoo of Squirrels and Rabbits", that small children would really enjoy. To see this buddha, you usually have to pay admission fee to get in, but our local friends told us last night that, admission fee is free during the New Year's. It was a nearby sightseeing spot that's worthwhile going to see. By the way, there was an earthquake yesterday. We were just about to get out of the parking lot, when it hit us in our car. We were surprised that even moving cars shake sideways at magnitude 4 earthquake. It shook for a quite a long time and we both froze. It was a scary experince.
