Just the Two of Us
Eric Gale （guitar）、Richard Tee（Fender Rhodes Piano）、Marcus Miller（bass）、Steve Gadd（Drums）、Ralph MacDonald（Percussion）、Grover Washinton Jr.（Sax） という演奏メンバーであるが、「誰？」という方々にご説明申し上げると、ひとりひとりがJazz 、Fusionの世界では恐ろしく有名なメンバーなのである。前奏のくだりを聴くだけでこのメンバーたちの恐るべき技術と感性を体現できる。Fender Rhodes Pianoの魔術師と呼ばれているRichard Teeによるアルペジオはたった4小節で聴くものを「Just The Two Of Us」の世界に引きずり込む。「Fender Rhodes Pianoはこう使うべし」という魔術師Richard Teeの教えが伝わってくるような演奏である。9小節目からフィルインするMarcus MillerのBassによるハイフレッドでのスライド奏法がこの曲の前奏部分の美しさを限界まで高めている。後半でみせるチョッパーベースとの「出し入れ」はさすがとしかいいようがない。Panacea Steel Drum Bandによる後半のSteel Drumはリリックのなかの「crystal raindrops」を連想させるとてつもなく美しい響きを奏でだしている。はっきりいってこのコラボレーションは奇跡である。
