Kana Uemura, who loves music and comedy very much. Reportedly, she liked a popular comedy programs on TV so much that once she felt like being a comedian when she was a child. One of the songs "Toireno kamisama" (the God of the toilet)
in this album became a smash hit. This nine-minute long song is about the memory of her grandmother
:
It is when Kana was 3rd grade at school that the story starts. She used to play her favorite board game with her grandmother, go daily shopping together, and helped her family with housework at home every day.
But one day, Grandmother said: " So if you keep the toilet sparkly clean every day, you can be beautiful like the Goddess..." Since then, Kana began to clean the toilet eagerly every day, believing that she would be a beauty. However, as she grew up, she conflicted with Grandmother and family. People often end up losing their important things by hurting other people
... Two years after Kana moved to Tokyo, Grandmother was hospitalized with illness. She visited Grandmother in hospital. The next morning, Grandmother departed to Heaven -as if she were waiting until Kana came back to see her again. Kana became grateful for Grandmother for love and bringing her up, and regretted about the conflict, not repaying any favor and not being a good granddaughter. She believes that if there is something makes her beautiful, it must be Grandmother's affection expressed with a tale about "the God of the toilet".
No doubt this is her breakthrough song, and will be a representative work. But this is not all of her appeal. Her expressiveness shown by the gap between sorrowful voice in "Wasurenaiyo" (I'll never forget)
and cute voice in "Watashi hajime
(the start of my new life)
, and her sense of melody show that she would never end up in one-hit wonder. Kana's next new album " Kana -my favorite things-
", recorded with various musicians she respects, is coming on Sep. 15
