8-Ball8-Ball is a rock band based out of Okinawa,Japan which is made up of 4 members(Chris, Keiichi, Leon and Ray)I have known these guys for many years. I have been playing off and on in the same clubs as these guys since they were in junior high school.Yes you heard me correct "junior high school".Ray and Leon are sons of another rock musician George Murasaki. They were born into the music scene. Really, what else would they have become? They started out at that young age playing covers of X-Japan. Hair, make up the whole show.As they grew, the music grew. Getting into the club scene and playing to a large American croud on Okinawa helped to shape the sound and style of these musicians. These two brothers soon went to Hollywood to attend Musician's Institute. There they developed as musicians and showmen and got a sense for the buisness. After returning to Okinawa Ray and Leon formed the band and got Chris on bass. They ran through a few guitar players always knowing that Keiichi would be coming to join them soon.Ray often told me "Just wait untill our other guitar player gets here."The other guitar player Ray was talking about is Keiichi.Keiichi also studied at Musician's Institute but he stayed here in Japan. He has won a Young Guitar magazine contest where he was trading solos with Yngwie Malmsteen. He is probable best known for a small video clip on the internet where he played the Super Mario Bros. theme on guitar to include the sound effects. Try to find it if you can it's pretty good.My first meeting with the entire band as it is today was impressive. I was used to the show they had before with some White Zombie, Offspring, Metallica etc. But the new band delivered so much more. They opened up with a Dream Theater instrumental and followed up with Hanger 18 by Megadeth Extremely complicated and rocking music. I was blown away. They grew bigger and bigger on Okinawa and were able to buy their own club in Koza, Okinawa called 7th Heaven.Their father's band Murasaki plays there as well as 8-Ball and they host a wide variety of local bands regularly. The band are mainly known internationally by non-rock fans for its song (Need For) Speed which have been the theme tune for the drifting series D1 Grand Prix on the video magazine, Video Option; since the the series inauguration, its other song Can't Carry On which is played at the closing stage of the coverage. As a result of the popularity of its two songs, the band were signed to the Avex Trax label.Check out 8-Ball http://www.8-ball.jp

Sorry it's been a while since my last posting. Many other things happening in my life that takes up my time.Anyway...I have some comments on the World Cup and I guess Soccer in general. I am the first to admit I know nothing about soccer.Yeah as most kids did, I played a little when I was young. I understand the rules.I don't understand the philosophy of "the flop".Yes it's very effective as soon as you get bumped to hit the deck like you've been shot and scream in pain like your toenails are being ripped out and as soon as the ref blows the whistle you get up 100% healthy, high fives all around and you continue to run for the remainder of the 90 minutes like a thoroughbred. It seems that the lack of scoring opportunities, skill and a proper game plan create award winning actors instead of athletes. It is easier to score with a free kick than by regular game play. Perhaps the rules need to be modernized and more than one ref needs to be on the field. The players and coaches are smarter than the rules at this point and I think the game is an embarrassment if it continues to go this way. There are flops in basketball but the ref could call it either way and when the final score is in the 100's 1 or 2 points is not a game winner.Perhaps we should move the free kick/penalty kick line back so it is at least a 50% chance of success. As it is now it's 80% or better.I would be embarrassed to win by a cheap acting job. I guess as professional athletes they are paid to win. And win by any means. I would hope that some personal integrity would kick in and players would be proud to display the talent and skill of the team and not manipulate the rules like a $2.00 accident/injury lawyer. I'm sure this is not a popular opinion but I just laugh when I watch it. I don't know how fans feel about this in South America or Europe but in the U.S., it's a joke. When was the last time you have seen anyone head butted in the chest or hit in the chest and been leveled where your feet are parallel with the ground then roll around on the ground like a 5 year old girl that got her Barbie doll stolen? Only in Professional Wrestling, we all know how real that is.

Well... The votes are in and the next American Idol is Taylor Hicks. Season 5 comes to a close with Taylor Hicks taking it home with a southern swagger and energetic personality. I truely hate to admit it but I am a true fan of this show and for the contest in general. I think there is a ton of tallent waiting for a break like this everywhere. Unfortunately, the show and all of the hype that goes with it brings out the freaks and the non-tallented for all the world to see. I have been to see the show live last year and been in one of the Ford Focus commercials during the finale 2 seasons ago. I have seen virtually every show since the first season. I'm a big fan. I said it. I'm a fan of American Idol.Anyway...In past seasons there were great singers and great personalities that have made it to the finals of the show. This year I believe was not as lucky. I will explain.Season 1. Kelly Clarkson: Great voice, great look for pop stardom, honest personality and charm. A great choice. Kelly has sold millions of CDs and has won a couple of Grammys. Season 2. Ruben Studdard: Not what you think of when you think pop star but a great voice for R&B. Alot like Luther Vandross. He beat out Clay Aiken who has a great voice but just didn't win. Both guys have had great carrers with good steady sales.Season 3. Fantasia Barrino: Great singer, great energy. Her CD has sold well but she will need better songs to have a lengthy carrer.Season 4. Carrie Underwood: Great voice, great looks and image, the total package. Carrie has done very well in country music since her win on Idol. Her carrer will continue as long as she wants to do it. Carrie beat out Bo Bice. Bo was my favorite contestant on Idol. Bo has a great image and awsome voice. He has done vocals for Carlos Santana and released his debut CD which has sold ok. He will need better songs next time around. With his raw tallent he should go far.Back to the present, Season 5. In my opinion the champion was voted off prior to the finals. Elliot Yamin and Chris Daughtry both should have been there. Elliot has a great voice, great image, a true pop star waiting to be born. Chris is a star waiting for a break. Great voice, great image, again the total package. It has been rumored that Chris has been contacted by the band Fuel to take the vocals and give a new energy to the band. Nothing has been confirmed but Chris says he will do what's best for him, his family and carrer. This year's runner-up was Katherine McPhee. An awsome voice and great look but her personality has been questionable. Everything I've seen can not pinpoint the thing with her but many don't really like it. And now our champion... Taylor has charm and personality more than tallent. He is unique and in todays music world that can carry you along way. Bob Dillon couldn't sing a note but he is one of the greatest song writers and performers the world has ever seen. He is unique and had something to sing about. Time will only tell what lies ahead for Taylor Hicks. Enjoy the ride man. There will always be that one or two people that should have made it but just didn't. I hope this show and others like it motivate you to get up and explore your tallents. You never know who's watching. You could be the next American Idol.

Metallica will not only induct Black Sabbath into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Monday (March 13), but the group will also perform a short set of Sabbath songs during the event at New York's Waldorf Astoria Hotel. Sabbath itself is not expected to perform that night."Not only will we be inducting Sabbath, we are going to make a humble attempt at playing some of their songs live in front of the gathered masses, including, most humbling of all, the four members of the band themselves," Metallica says in a statement on its Web site."For all of us in Metallica, Black Sabbath are a major influence not only on our music, but on our lives, and as you can imagine, we're psyched to join Bill Ward, Geezer Butler, Ozzy Osbourne and Tony Iommi for the induction ceremony," the statement continues. As previously reported, Metallica is gearing up for a run of South African dates later this month, in advance of eight European festivals in June and Japan's Summer Sonic Festival in August. The group is also moving ahead on its next studio album, which will be executive produced by Rick Rubin.

'Chinese Democracy' has been more than a decade in the making.Guns N' Roses will release their first album in 13 years next month when the long awaited 'Chinese Democracy' finally hits stores. The LP has been more than a decade in the making after a series of postponements and production problems. The last album from G&R was in 1993 with their covers album 'The Spaghetti Incident.'Front-man Axl Rose has promised fans a more "complex" record and hinted at festival appearances this summer. The new album contains 13 tracks with titles including "Better, There Was A Time" and "The Blues." With the entire original G&R band involved in other projects, who will be the new Guns? I'm sure Velvet Revolver won't step aside to rejoin Axl in G&R. A few years ago Guns N' Roses played Summer Sonic. There were some big name players but it really wasn't the same. Axl, you can play the same songs but it will just be Axl Rose's solo project.

Van Halen with frontmen David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar are scheduled to perform at the "Signal to Space" concert sometime in 2007.Michael Luckman, is organizing this event to beam a message of peace to the universe. Luckman is the author of Alien Rock: The Rock'N'Roll Extraterrestrial Connection. In my opinion, anything to get Van Halen back together and on the road or in the studio would be great. Even if it's a one time thing it would be worth recording and selling. There are millions of old Van Halen fans all over the world waiting for that. There are also talks that after that show Dave will leave the band again and will be replaced by David Coverdale of Whitesnake fame. The best person to fill the big shoes left by both Sammy and Dave is Ralph Saenz vocals for The Atomic Punks (an early Van Halen tribute band) and vocals for Metal Skool (a tribute to 80's Big Hair Heavy Metal). This guy is a great frontman and singer. You have to see him to really appreciate him.Check out the links to see and hear them in action. The Atomic PunksMetal Skool

I've been following Line 6 for a while now and have always been impressed with the tone that they have replicated in their amps and effects. A friend of mine uses them exclusively and his sound is big and fat and dripping with tone. At the touch of a button he can get a Fender Twin sound just like that.Since I'm alone and without band these days, I have been looking into computer based recording. Line 6 has got me motivated to get it going. Guitarport and Riff Tracker are the perfect combo for me. I am saving my change so I can pick these toys up as soon as I can. Check them out at

Jimmy Page's guitar solo on the Led Zeppelin classic Stairway to Heaven has been voted the greatest of all time in a new online poll.Page's performance on the 1971 track topped the survey by music website AboutGuitars.com, beating out competition from Eddie Van Halen's solo on the 1978 Van Halen track Eruption and the dual guitar solo by Allen Collins and Gary Rossington on Lynyrd Skynyrd's 1973 epic Freebird. The top ten are:10. Crossroads by Eric Clapton (Cream) 9. Crazy Train by Randy Rhodes (Ozzy Osbourne) 8. Hotel California by Don Felder and Joe Walsh (The Eagles) 7. One by Kirk Hammett (Metallica) 6. November Rain by Slash (Guns N' Roses) 5. All Along the Watchtower by Jimi Hendrix 4. Comfortably Numb by David Gilmore (Pink Floyd) 3. Free Bird by Allen Collins and Gary Rossington (Lynyrd Skynyrd) 2. Eruption by Eddie Van Halen (Van Halen) 1. Stairway to Heaven by Jimmy Page (Led Zepplin)It's hard to argue with this list but I think Zack Wylde's solo in No More Tears is worthy of mention. There are so many more. Please let me know which guitar players and solos you like. Who should be on this list. I'll track it and list it if we get enough intrest.

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry has said in recent interviews that the end is in sight for Aerosmith. "We're definitely closer to the end than to the beginning, and the number of times that we are going to play is a finite number."He also admits that it is difficult to be in a band at this age much less a rock band with this much energy. It is getting harder to keep up with the schedule.Aerosmith broke into the rock scene in 1970 from Boston. The dirty blues based rock sound caught on and launched Aerosmith into legendary status. Drugs and alcohol plagued the band in the early years but since then have cleaned up their act and their image. The music today is as good as it has ever been and Aerosmith's popularity is sky high. Aerosmith may be near the end, "Let the music do the talkin'."

I was watching TV tonight and I saw a show that had a bunch of people that said they wanted to kill other people and some wanted to kill themselves.I was begging to be invited to that show as a guest. It didn't happen because I'm nobody so you all get to listen to me rave on about this.First of all life is a gift given to us all by our parents and which ever god or supreme being you care to believe in. Life is nothing cheap you can discard or replace whenever you are tired or upset. One person said they feel it should be legal to kill someone if you have a good reason. I thought she was stupid. Your reason is completely relative. In other words, what is important to you may not matter at all to anyone else. who is to say your reason is good enough to kill someone? Another girl said we are all animals and it is only natural to kill one another. My screams at the TV were unheard but my reply was Yes we are all animals by definition but we are the smartest animals. We walk upright. We can build our own shelter. we have the ability to create anything we want and logically solve any problem we are confronted with. We use education and knowledge combined with experience and sound moral judgement. Animals for the most part use instinct. If you really believe we are in the same class as the common animal, remove your clothes, live outside in the open forest and hunt for your food with your bare hands. I'll see if you still think we are in the same class next week. (if you survive)Many people today in my opinion are handed a very safe and sheltered life and when they venture outside their safety zone, the world is a very different place. People are rude. Your feelings get hurt. Many terrible things are thrown at you from all sides. Is the answer violence? Suicide? Murder? I think before we regress to our primitive neanderthal instincts I will ask you this... What are you doing to make your life or the situation better? Yeah life sucks sometimes... What are you going to do to make it better? I'm not big on touchy feely solutions but there are plenty of doctors, police and social workers that are dying to help people. If you really need help there is help out there. Many times, the problem is with us than with others. Don't get me wrong, there are some major tools out there but if more people looked at themselves for a solution instead of others to point the blame, the world might take a giant step forward and all people of every culture and background would be just a little more tolerant of others. My advise is to have respect for everyone as a human being. We don't have to give each other warm milk and back rubs but don't inconvenience me and I'll do the same for you. The golden rule boys and girls is to treat others as you would want to be treated. I know I talk about a lot of fun things on this blog, sex drugs and rock & roll but I really had to get serious and give my 2 cents worth on this. Sorry it was 10 cents worth.

Neither one are great fighters but at least Bobby can move around the ring.Royce Gracie vs Hideo Tokoro. Gracie by submission. Gracie has about 40 lbs over Tokoro and tons of experience.Jerome LeBanner vs Alan Karaev. Both strong guys should be a good fight. LeBanner by decision.Peter Aerts vs Shungo Oyama. Peter Aerts all the way. The record speaks for itself. Yoshihiro Nakao vs Heath Herring. ??? Herring by decision. ???Masato vs Akira Ohigashi. Masato by decision. Good fighter and crowd favorite. He always find the victory somehow.Musashi vs Bob Sapp. This fight will be decided in the first 30 seconds. Musashi has improved his defence. Sapp doesn't take a punch very well and runs out of gas quickly. Both fighters need this win. If Sapp hits Musashi it could be all over. If Sapp can't hit Musashi, Musashi can take advantage of the situation and make Sapp use all of his energy chasing him around the ring and missing with big power punches. Musashi by split decision.Semmy Schilt vs Ernesto Hoost. Both are great fighters. Schilt by decision. Although I believe Hoost is the better fighter.

Metallica has listened to the fans and has claimed to put the signature guitar solo back in the mix. Thier last album St. Anger sold moderately well, fans were less than pleased with the lack of the signature Metallica guitars including solos. The band says they miss the solos as much as the fans do and say the next albums will return Metallica to thier musical roots. Kirk Hammet says "We've all expressed the fact that we think guitar solos are fun. They're dynamic, expressive and another distinct aspect of Metallica's music."

Kid is probably the best fighter out there today. Calm, respectful and polite are not words that describe Norifumi Kid Yamamoto. A better description would be one of the most dangerous and aggressive fighters today. World class wrestling skills combined with unnatural strength and better than average boxing skills set Kid far above the competition in K-1. If Kid were to cross over to Pride and then to UFC, I believe he would be a featherweight or lightweight champion in no time. I look forward to his fight on New Years Eve. I can predict victory for Kid and a painful defeat for any opponents of Kid in the near future.

The Prince of Darkness, Ozzy Osbourne has said there will be no Black Sabbath reunion albums made. The band feels anything they could do now although it would probably sell very well would just tarnish the band's image. The last studio album from Black Sabbath was in 1978. Ozzy and Black Sabbath had a falling out in the early 80's but since then have made up and toured several times playing to sold out arenas all over the world. The band is in agreeance that they will finish on a good note.

I was talking to this kid probably about 12 years old and he got an attitude with me. I first tried to calmly talk to this kid but he continued to talk to me like I was some idiot. I quickly lost my patience and started to talk to him like he was talking to me but I let it go and left the scene. That little bastard thinks he won that argument. He barely learned how to wipe his own ass. What does he know about anything.Sorry I had to vent today. Thank god for tequila.

Now that he has taken a break from touring with his new band (Super Joint Ritual) His doctors have advised him to have surgery to repair all problems and damage to his back or get fitted for a wheelchair. He chose the surgery. He claims he will be healthy enough to walk through walls again in no time!

Let me start by saying I love live and loud rock music. Two years ago I visited my friend in Okinawa and on one street we stopped by four live houses. Every bar had some sort of live music. Punk, Radio Rock, Classic Rock and Heavy Metal. It was all there. Fujiyama's, Gate Two Garage, The Jet, and 7th Heaven are the club names. There are more but those are the ones I stopped by.My question is this... Are there any good live houses with good bands that don't charge \2000-\3000 cover charge in the Kanto area? If so, Please let me know. I'm dying for some music.(As you can see I haven't got much work done on this page. Be patient)
