Kenzo Oshima, Japan's ambassador to the United Nations who pushed for tough U.N. sanctions against North Korea, will step down and be replaced by veteran diplomat Yukio Takasu, government sources said.

The personnel change will be made official in July following Cabinet approval.

Oshima became Japan's U.N. ambassador in November 2004 and has led Japan in discussing diplomatic issues within the world body.

６月２７日（米国ニューヨーク時間）と言えば、日本が国連の平和構築委員会議長国に選任された日でした。正式には、７月の閣議決定後と言うことのようですが、大島大使は、昨年北朝鮮のミサイルテストや核実験に対する、安保理の制裁措置について強硬な姿勢を貫いて、安保理の採択へ活躍が記憶に残ります。

後任国連大使は外務省の Yukio Takasu 氏就任の予定とTHE ASAHI SHIMBUNは伝えています。
