国連は3月20日を国際幸福の日に指定し、幸福と福祉を人類共通のゴールに設定した。それに従って、2013年に幸福国に関する報告書を発行し、世界の国を幸福度でランクした。その結果上位にランクされたのは平均寿命が長い、一人当たりのＧＤＰが高い，職業選択の自由がある、社会の腐敗汚職がない国であった。勿論環境もその条件になっている。
それによると一位はデンマークで、次にノールウェー、スイス、オランダ、スウェーデン、カナダ、フィンランド、オーストリア、アイスランド、オーストラリアの順である。北欧の国が多いが、私の旅行だけの経験からもこれらの国が上位にくるのは納得できる。日本は43位で、上の条件の中ではでは一人当たりのＧＤＰが低いのが（24位）一番影響しているように思われる。ちなみにアメリカは17位、韓国41位、中国93位である。
United Nations designated March 20 as the International Day of Happiness and recognized happiness and well-being as a goal and aspiration of human beings around the world. It issued the list of the world happiest countries. Those in the highest rank have the combination of higher life expectancy, gross domestic product per capita, social support, generocity, freedom to make life choice and lower perception of corruption. Naturally good environment is also important factor for happiness.
The top countries are Denmark, Norway, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Canada, Finland, Austria, Iceland, Australia in this order. Most of them are North European countries. Even from my poor experience of just travelling those countries this rank sounds reasonable.
Disappointedly Japan ranks 43, and the United States 17, Korea 41 and China 93.
