Birth rate has been declining despite the government's efforts to increase it. Economic reason seems to be principal one behind this problem. But I was surprised to learn that male infertility is one of the causes for low birth rate. Half of the infertility cases is attributed to male infertility. Crucial factors of man's fertility are sperms' ability to move effectively, their shape and their numbers in a given quantity of semen. The research found that sperm counts and testosterone levels are declining and quality of sperm is deteriorating recently. The causes for these problems are unexplained. But environmental pollution and life style change could harm our sperm.
Chemicals found in plastics and household items can disrupt our hormone system and harm our fertility. Rising temperature affects man's fertility negatively. Advanced age is also associated with lower sperm quality.
Individual problems that harm male fertility are a poor diet and sedentary lifestyle, and alcohol and drug use.
