Tanabata(七夕) is a Japanese star gestival ,originating from China. Acocording to legend, the Milky Way separates Lovers 牽牛 kengyou Altair and 織姫 orihime Vega, and they are allowed to meet only once a year on July 7th.
In present-day Japan, people generally celebrate this day by writing wishes on tanzaku( small pieces of paper) and hanging them on bamboo. sometimes with ot her paper decorations.Many areas in Japan have their own Tanabata customs, whi ch are mostly related to local obon traditions. There is also a traditional Tanabata song.
Nokiba ni yureru Ohoshi-sama kira-kira Kingin sunago
Translation: the bamboo leaves rustle, shaking away in the eaves, The stars twinkle, Gold and silver grains of sand.
