フランスのラジオ番組でジャズが聴けます。例えばこちらなかなか興味深い選曲のようで、私も現在聴いています。LE BLEU, LA NUIT...という番組名。そうそう、ノートパソコンを新調しましてスピーカーをONKYOのものにしました。インターネット上の音源が、かなりクリアに聴くことができます。ジャズ好きにはた ま り ま せ ん☆

どうもブログに注ぐエネルギーが以前ほどではなくなってきた(笑)まあそれだけ現実生活が充実しているんだろう。ここ最近焼酎のお湯割りがうまく感じられるようになってきた。いい感じでオヤジへ進化しているという証拠かもしれない。

The New York Timesの記事を読んでいてみつけたことば。jaw-dropping beautyこれは、漫画的に脳内でイメージが浮かんでくる。そうそうこの単語だけを英⇔日で覚えるのは、ちと難しいかもしれないが私の場合読んだ英文記事全体から俯瞰してこの単語をシャキッと把握して覚えたので記憶には残る。なんのことか分からないかもしれないが語彙増強には遠回りかもしれないけれど「多読」を実践することは重要だとは思っている。

いまだに紙の英英辞典を使っています。お気に入りはコウビルドですねえ。机の上にはノートパソコンとONKYOのスピーカー。大きめの辞書も4冊は広げられるくらいの机の広さ。私にとって、夜の数時間、机に向かうというのは貴重な時間でそのために快適な環境というものを追及してきました。さて、今日、ジャズの批評を英語で読んでいて目に入ってきた英単語をさっそく英英辞典で調べました。spine-tingling→ A spine-tingling film or piece of music is enjoyable because it causes you to feel a strong emotion such as excitement or fear.spineは知っている単語ですが、tingleは知らなかったのでtingleもついでに英英辞典で調べるとWhen a part of your body tingles, you have a slight stinging feeling there.If you tingle with a feeling such as excitement, you feel it very strongly.これで、イメージが湧いてきましたし、語彙が定着する割合も増えました。最近では、英英辞典のほうが英和辞典より使いやすいし、イメージ的に納得できるようになりましたねえ。英語が上達してきた証拠かな(笑)。

なるべく情報は英語で得るようにしている。洋書英字新聞海外のブログそれが楽しい。特にノートパソコンを最新型にしてからはサクサク快適に海外のサイトがみれるものだからうれしくなってついつい英文記事を読む時間が増える。前のパソコンのときはいちいちA4の紙に印刷したり英語の単語数を数えていたのだけれど今度のノートパソコンは画面もクリアで、目も疲れにくいし大きめのサイズだから印刷することもなくなった。そして語数にとらわれずもっともっとたくさん読んで読んでよみまくる。たとえばHarvard Business PublishingのサイトにあるTammy Erickson女史のブログも読みごたえがある。

The Financial Timesのコラム。Dear Lucyルーシー女史に、職場での悩みなどを相談するという設定みたいだ。ブログでは、読者参加型になっていて、ルーシー女史の回答と同じように、読者もアドバイスしている。例えばMy wife is the boss from hellこれは、かなり強烈な事例だと思うけれど、実際の話なのであろう。たぶん、ファイナンシャルタイムズに登録すれば過去の記事も読めると思う。
