On introducing new digital TV at home, I realized that there were a lot of unnecessary things on the shelf I place the TV set. (See Dec. 2, 2010)
The new digital TV set is longer in width, and requires more space than the old TV set.
So I started up cleaning.
I cannot complain if some people said that I believed in a recent cleaning boom.
For the past few years, there are full of news everywhere that younger generation are being passive on work, life, and even on love affairs . (See also Mar. 7, 2011)
They tend to avoid consumption; they've become more and more eager to save money, and drink alcohol or travel less and less.
Most of all, they tend to avoid buying things -cars and other luxury materials .

As for the new TV set, I had to buy it due to a policy set by the government.
As for cars- if I live in an area with little public transportation, I would need a car.
But if I live in a city with efficient public transportation, I would hesitate to buy a car due to problems of parking space, gas money and car tax.
As the one categorized to be "younger generation avoiding consumption", let me grumble:
It must have been "older generation" who built up society rooted in mass production, mass consumption, and mass disposal.
And they've developed a common value to think luxury items as status symbols.
Now it might be time to realize the limitation of such economy system, also for the sake of the Earth.
I myself don't agree with an idea that it's stupid to buy a car.
But I would like to decide by the need when I decide whether I should buy a car or various things .

It was just after I thought up this composition when a massive earthquake and tsunami struck Japan on Mar. 11, 2011 .
See Mar. 16, 2011 -I had to change the contents, so excuse me for the delay)
The next week, panic purchase of food, gasoline, and various daily products became a big problem especially around Tokyo.
Does owning a lot of materials uselessly make such people feel easier?
Or taking up muddle-through provision after having underestimated the earthquake?
panic purchase is nothing but ego trip .
It might be time to introspect our pride of possession... I also have such mind, though.
