It's tough to think up messages within 60 characters including spaces and punctuation. -But I understand that I cannot apply for #MessageToVoyager because I don't use any of social media that JPL
designates. So I'd like to share here. Anyone could take part in public voting, so I voted for: We offer friendship across the stars. You are not alone.
」
I'd like to take this occasion to celebrate 40th anniversary of Voyagers, Praising all the great achievement, and wish for safe flight for them. Also, today is ten days before the termination of Cassini
mission. I'd like to wish good luck for the rest of mission of Cassini, too.
As I confessed, when I was a junior high school student, I had deep interests in space and space exploration. But backed down after I flanked in mathematics in high school, And I had forgotten about it until I saw the news that Voyager 1 reached the edge of Solar System on June 22, 2012
. I came back in spring 2015
after I read news about New Horizons
heading for Pluto. Now thanks to internet, I can read various things. Besides, I manage to read website of NASA
and ESA
-that's one of the reason I think I'm lucky I didn't stop studying English.
-I'm not only keenly aware of passage of time and change of time, but also amazed at long operating life of twin Voyager spacecraft.
I look back that I got caught up in Voyagers simply because I felt what a romantic attempt to load message records for extraterrestrial lives. But back then, I didn't know the concrete contents of Golden Record. After I came back, I read various new facts including Voyagers' achevements while I had been away. Then, once I thought: can human race hold our head up before extraterrestrial people under current situation?
If extraterrestrial civilization discovered one of those probes, They might be disgusted at divergence between loaded messages and behavior of current human race, And transform it into machinery life form and send back Home for punishment... Apart from sci-fi movies... It was a miracle that love and wisdom of people on every corner of Earth came together in one circle, then why don't all the people on Earth try to come together as one circle? That's why I'd like to consider that Voyagers' achievements are not only scientific achievements that paved the way toward subsequent space exploration but also being "symbol of unity".
One more thing: MayChuck Berryrest in peace; one of the pioneers of rock'n'roll who passed oddly enough on the year of 40th anniversary of Voyagers. Honestly speaking, while I've listened to Elvis Presley
, I didn't know about Chuck Berry at all until I saw the contents list of Golden Record. I read that " Jonny B. Goode
" was included in Golden Record, and listened to a CD including this song for the first time. Incidentally, music representation from Japan on Golden Record is shakuhachi classical music " Soukaku reibo
". The title is shown " Tsuru no Sugomori
(鶴の巣籠: Crane's Nest)
" on website of JPL, butthe school of performer Gorou Yamaguchi
calls this song "Soukaku reibo". This is one of the reasons I began to listen to traditional Japanese music as ethnic music. On the website introducing biography of late Yamaguchi, there is a sentence saying thatthey believe Master Yamaguchi is now on board Voyager II and traveling across the Universe with the song "Soukaku reibo". Now Chuck Berry might have joined in crew of Voyager, talking about music on Earth with Yamaguchi...
