************************* I recently received the estimate from Tamtime for the overhaul of my Mahara Guilloché. The movement’s oil is dried up, so an overhaul is necessary. The mainspring is deteriorated and replacement is recommended. The case back gasket is deteriorated and will be replaced.
Optional: Case polishing is recommended. Polishing can’t completely remove deep scratches or dents but will significantly improve the appearance. However, because the bezel top has a pattern and there are printed or engraved markings nearby, polishing has its limits and may cause some loss of detail. (9,000 yen)
If you do not want the optional polishing, please notify them by email before confirming the order so they can reissue the estimate.
Other notes: The turnaround time is expected to be about 4 weeks after repair work starts. Shipping costs of 930 yen are extra. Until now, I never thought Tamtime’s estimates were expensive, but this time the total—40,700 yen (tax included)—felt a bit high. The main reason for the increase is the 9,000 yen polishing fee (optional).
I hesitated whether I really needed the polishing, but since this watch is about 25 years old and likely will be the last overhaul it ever gets, I decided to go ahead and accept the estimate as is. The turnaround is about a month, so I plan to wait patiently.
