On the left is Jeanne Hébuterne in a Yellow Sweater at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York. On the right is Portrait of Jeanne Hébuterne from the Ohara Museum of Art in Kurashiki City, which I visited on a recent business trip. Modigliani is one of my favorite painters, so I had long been curious about the Modigliani at the Ohara Museum. Finally seeing the actual painting this time was deeply moving.
By the way, I also quite like Utrillo’s “White Period,” and it turns out there’s a museum in Tokyo boasting a collection of 76 Utrillo paintings—apparently the largest number held by a private collection worldwide. I had no idea.
