The Jōrō Dōchū (Procession of Court Ladies) was showcased at the “Yamaguchi Happiness Festa 2025” held in Sangenjaya. The procession is said to have originated with the court ladies of the Taira clan who survived the Battle of Dan-no-ura, purifying themselves and visiting the mausoleum in memory of Emperor Antoku on the anniversary of his death. Today, it is performed every year on May 3 in Shimonoseki as part of the “Sentei-sai” ritual at Akama Shrine, in conjunction with the Shimonoseki Kaikyō Festival.
