この歌は、難破しそうになって九死に一生を得た奴隷船の船長が後に牧師になって作った歌だと聞いた事があります。
悪い事した奴の方が、「救われたい!」という気持は強いんだよ、って言ったのは親鸞ですが、なんか分かるような気がします。
イタリアに旅行に行った姪が、ローマの広場で頭の禿げたオッサンたちが集まってアカペラでこの歌を歌っているのを聞いて、音楽が生活の中に入っているんだな・・と思ったと土産話で語っていたことを想い出します。 (April 16, 2005 08:37:14 PM)

もしかして、有名な話？
奴隷船の船長が･･･というより
イギリスの古い賛美歌で、西部開拓時代から
移民を中心としてアメリカで広く歌い継がれ
自分たちの場所を求めて移動しながら
歌っている・・・というイメージが強いですね。
いい感じに歌えたらな～なんて思いながら
今日はたまたま頭の中で曲がかかっていたので
