［The newpaperより抜粋 21 August 2009］ENRAGED at being scolded by her employer, a maid slashed her with a knife and hit her with a mortar and wooden stool.[中略]Hanni, dressed in a blue T-shirt and jeans, sobbed quietly halfway through her counsel's mitigation.However, when she caught sight of Madam Phang and her husband, Mr Lim Hee Soon, 41, in the gallery, she shouted: 'I worked well for you! Now, I am going to jail.'［訳］雇い主に叱られたメイドは、ナイフで雇い主を切りつけ、すり鉢や木のスツールで殴った。[中略]青いTシャツとジーンズ姿のHanii（メイド）は、弁護団が軽減事由を説いている途中で静かにすすり泣いていた。ところがPhang夫人（雇い主）とその夫、Lim Hee Soon、４１歳を傍聴席で見たとたん、「あんたのところでよく働いた。これからは牢屋に行ってきます。」と叫んだ。［コメント］メイドさんと雇用主間でのトラブルはアジア諸国でよくあることのようです。日刊シンガポール新聞

今シンガポールで流行のクラブ
［The newpaperより抜粋 17 August 2009］But by far the main attraction at these clubs are the young women, mostly Thai and some Vietnamese, who act as drink hostesses.Male customers need only buy them 'ladies' drinks' and they will sit with them, pour the drinks and keep them company［訳］しかし、このクラブでの主な呼び物は、ドリンクホステスとして働くタイ人女性、ベトナム人女性（ホステスのほとんどはタイ人、ベトナム人は若干）である。男性客はレディードリンクをおごるだけで、ホステスが隣に座ってお酌、話し相手になってくれる。［コメント］シンガポールにあるタイ人クラブの話です。こんなクラブが今シンガポールでは大人気で、20、30代の若いエリートサラリーマンが主な客層だそうです。日刊シンガポール新聞

ホームレス家族
［The newpaperより抜粋 9 December 2008］FOR the past two years, they have been living like nomads - in Singapore. The family of 10 has lived with friends, relatives, in parks and on beaches. They wash in public toilets and live off charity.They ended up in a shelter for homeless families in June this year. But barely three months later, they were back on the streets after breaking the shelter's rules.［訳］ここ2年の間、彼らは遊牧民の様な暮らしをしている、シンガポールで。10人家族である彼らは、友人、親戚の家に身を寄せたり、公園、海辺で暮らしてきた。公衆便所で体を洗い、施しを受けて生活する。今年の6月、ホームレス家族のための避難所にたどり着いたが、避難所の規則を破り、わずか6ヶ月で路上生活へと戻ってしまった。［コメント］家族構成は、父親、母親、子供８人の計１０人だそうです。日刊シンガポール新聞

メイドを違法に働かせる
［The newpaperより抜粋 11 November 2007］FIRST she tested the judge's patience by taking up hours of court-time to cross-examine her witnesses with often-rambling questions.She even interrupted the judge and, on another occasion, applied lipstick and turned off her ringing phone in front of the judge.［訳］まず手始めに、訳の分からない反対尋問を行い裁判の時間を費やし、裁判官をイライラさせた。（それだけではなく、）裁判官の邪魔をしたり、裁判官の前で、口紅を塗ったり、鳴っている電話の電源を切ったりもした。［コメント］Olshewsky, 47才の女性は、自分の雇っているメイドを、無許可で他人のために働かせ利益を得ていた。その裁判での彼女の態度が↑↑シンガポールでは、インドネシア・フィリピンからの出稼ぎメイドが活躍している。ちなみに給料は⇒ これくらい自分の雇っているメイドを、他人のために働かせるのは違法。日刊シンガポール新聞
